Build and maintain automated API tests for REST and SOAP services, validating functional equivalence between webMethods and Kong APIs. Integrate tests into CI/CD pipelines, test authentication and security controls, perform smoke testing after releases, organize traceable test data and results, and report defects. The role requires 1–2 years of QA, software testing, or API development experience, programming skills, and the ability to obtain an IRS Moderate Background Investigation/Public Trust.

The Kong API Gateway Specialist will design, implement, and maintain Kong solutions to modernize and secure enterprise APIs, ensuring compliance with federal standards and optimizing API performance.

Build and maintain observability dashboards, alerts, and Prometheus metrics for APIs and middleware. Establish API performance baselines, tune alerts, track certificate expirations, and support incident triage and root cause analysis. Collect and report availability and performance data, assist with Filing Season reviews, and script load tests for webMethods and Kong ahead of peak periods and migrations.

Build and maintain secure CI/CD pipelines for API and Kong gateway configuration across IRS environments. Manage infrastructure and platform configuration as code, automate OpenShift and cloud resources, embed security and validation checks, and automate onboarding tasks. Integrate pipelines with ServiceNow change control and CAB approvals, maintain backups and restore testing, and document processes for operations handoff.
