Software engineering intern supporting Wellmark’s Marketing and Digital team. Responsibilities include developing customer-facing web experiences, building accessible user interface components, supporting content management systems, gathering requirements, collaborating with technical and business stakeholders, and participating in Agile delivery processes.

Leads the design, development, integration, and ongoing improvement of Wellmark’s internal developer platform and developer experience capabilities. Owns developer portals, software catalogs, self-service workflows, automation, platform integrations, health checks, and engineering enablement. Manages segmentation, personalization, triggers, workflow logic, testing, campaign measurement, optimization, data integrations, governance, compliance, and vendor coordination. Uses performance metrics to improve conversion, acquisition efficiency, retention, benefit utilization, and automation productivity while partnering with cross-functional teams and leadership.

Leads enterprise observability strategy and implementation across cloud, infrastructure, applications, and AI platforms. Designs monitoring, logging, tracing, and telemetry solutions; improves reliability, availability, scalability, and operational efficiency. Serves as a technical escalation point, develops resilient cloud patterns, automates processes, supports incident resolution, advises stakeholders, mentors engineers, and ensures compliance with technical and contractual requirements. The intern collaborates with technology and business stakeholders to create customer-focused solutions for member, employer, and provider-facing applications while building software development and health insurance industry experience.

Supports financial, operational, compliance, performance, and IT audit activities within Wellmark’s Audit Services department. Responsibilities include testing controls, reviewing data and transactions, preparing audit findings, assisting external auditors, conducting process walkthroughs, and analyzing claims and enrollment processes. The internship offers exposure to risk management, governance, Model Audit Rule compliance, and enterprise risk management in a hybrid Des Moines setting.

Supports Wellmark’s Corporate Communications team by planning, writing, publishing, and distributing internal and external communications across intranet, email, newsletters, social media, and media channels. Responsibilities include monitoring news and social media, interviewing subject matter experts, researching communication improvements, developing communication plans, and analyzing performance metrics. The internship begins part-time in spring 2027 and transitions to a full-time hybrid summer schedule in Des Moines, Iowa.

Actuarial intern supporting health insurance pricing, reserving, forecasting, rate filings, market analysis, solvency testing, and healthcare reform modeling. Responsibilities include collecting, manipulating, and analyzing enrollment, claims, premium, product, and financial data using Excel, Access, VBA, and SAS. The intern will conduct experience studies, update rating factors, assist with actuarial value calculations, and communicate analytical results while developing practical actuarial skills.

Supports the User Experience technology team through application troubleshooting, production support, root-cause analysis, UI artifact development, documentation, and code example maintenance. Collaborates with UX designers, engineers, business stakeholders, and application operations teams to create user-centered solutions. The intern will gain hands-on experience with software development, shared codebases, source control, and technology delivery in a hybrid summer program.
