Develop and maintain software within an Agile development environment supporting cyber mission programs. Responsibilities include analyzing requirements, designing and coding software, debugging defects, integrating systems, improving development standards, and creating basic database queries. The role is intended for an early-career software developer with foundational programming knowledge and familiarity with Java or another object-oriented language, Python, and Agile methods.

Summer software engineering interns will support Peraton’s Internal Research & Development program in Herndon or Blacksburg. Interns will work with full-time staff in Agile teams on requirements, software architecture, design, development, and unit/component testing across advanced research projects involving communications, space, cybersecurity, defense, public safety, and health. The ten-week program requires 35–40 hours weekly and is intended primarily for students entering their junior or senior year.

Monitor network security devices and alerts across operational networks, analyze network traffic and packet captures, identify security risks, investigate violations, and support incident response. The role creates detailed incident reports, maintains security procedures, and coordinates with enterprise teams and government leaders. Candidates need DoD cybersecurity certifications, Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility, networking and intrusion detection knowledge, familiarity with MITRE ATT&CK and Cyber Kill Chain, and at least two years of incident handling experience.

Leads systems engineering for complex hardware and software systems, including requirements analysis, architecture and design, trade studies, modeling, risk management, configuration control, integration, and testing. Develops DoDAF-compliant architectures, technical documentation, system engineering plans, and implementation strategies. Provides technical leadership, advises government stakeholders, evaluates alternatives, and ensures the technical integrity of deliverables for a national security program.

Supports cybersecurity engineering for DoD systems through SIEM log analysis, vulnerability assessment, DISA STIG compliance, continuous monitoring, risk assessments, and security control implementation. The role develops technical mitigations, integrates security into DevSecOps processes, supports audits and investigations, coordinates with system stakeholders, and ensures compliance with government standards. It requires an active IAT Level II certification and active Top Secret clearance with SCI eligibility.

Leads systems engineering and architecture for cloud-based data environments supporting national security programs. Responsibilities include data architecture, migration, lifecycle management, system requirements, CONOPS, DoDAF views, trade studies, integration, testing, risk management, and configuration control. Serves as technical lead and Scrum Master, mentors junior engineers, resolves data issues, and briefs government and executive stakeholders.

Supports federal cybersecurity programs by implementing and assessing NIST security controls, managing RMF authorization activities in eMASS, developing security documentation, and maintaining POA&Ms. The role coordinates STIG remediation, conducts risk assessments, monitors incidents, and communicates security requirements to technical and nontechnical stakeholders. Requires extensive ISSO or security engineering experience, advanced cybersecurity certification, familiarity with security tools, and an active TS/SCI clearance with the ability to obtain a polygraph.

Supports government test and evaluation activities by planning and executing testing, performance analysis, data collection, modeling and simulation, statistical analysis, risk assessment, and evaluation documentation. Coordinates program and event-level testing, assesses requirements and testability, manages data and configuration processes, supports test readiness, and collaborates with systems engineering teams and stakeholders. Requires 5+ years of Test Engineer experience and a current TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.

Supports implementation, troubleshooting, configuration, operation, and maintenance of IT systems in a secure national security environment. Provides user assistance, manages daily system administration activities, supports network, server, desktop, and application security services, and may perform vulnerability assessments and solution development. Requires Linux familiarity, DoD 8570 IAT Level 2 compliance, shiftwork availability, and an active TS/SCI clearance with polygraph.

Provision, administer, secure, patch, and configure RHEL and Ubuntu servers across connected and disconnected networks. Develop Ansible automation, manage Kubernetes clusters and workloads, configure networking, storage, and firewalls, and deploy monitoring systems. Investigate service disruptions, conduct root cause analysis, produce after-action reports, support hardware and software deployments, and maintain secure environments aligned with DISA STIGs and NIST controls.
