A 12–16 week application engineering internship supporting gas sales and development activities at Solar Turbines. The intern will complete a challenging project, apply classroom knowledge to real-world engineering work, collaborate across departments, participate in training and networking, and receive mentorship. The role seeks an Economics student or recent graduate with strong communication, problem-solving, teamwork, judgment, and organizational skills, preferably with oil and gas or gas turbine experience.

Partners with engineering and business leaders on budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial reporting, and strategic decision-making. Leads monthly financial reviews, develops executive reporting packages, manages enterprise R&E reporting governance, and drives process standardization, automation, data quality, and continuous improvement. Ensures compliance with financial policies while translating complex financial information into actionable insights.

Lead mechanical design and NPI for turbomachinery from concept through production using 3D CAD, FEA/CFD, and PLM. Translate product needs into requirements, perform trade studies and analyses, create BOMs and documentation, collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional teams, investigate field issues, and drive design for manufacturability, quality, and cost improvements.

Provides technical accountability for purchased parts throughout the product lifecycle, focusing on supplier quality, manufacturing processes, and continuous improvement. Reviews designs and drawings, monitors supplier performance, leads PPAP and FAPITP activities, participates in FMEA, resolves technical issues, and supports supplier selection and qualification. Collaborates with engineering, sourcing, and purchasing teams on NPI, process development, corrective actions, and production improvements.

Manages strategic and day-to-day supplier relationships, purchase orders, contracts, negotiations, supplier performance, cost reduction, risk mitigation, and sourcing initiatives. Leads commercial negotiations, supports new product introduction and supplier selection, coordinates cross-functional improvement efforts, and ensures reliable supply, quality, delivery, and value. Requires onsite work five days per week.

Develop supplier roadmaps, analyze supplier markets and capacity, assess sourcing and supply chain risks, and create mitigation plans. Collaborate with Engineering, Operations, Finance, and other stakeholders to align sourcing strategies with business objectives. Monitor supplier performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives that improve efficiency, resilience, standardization, and cost savings across the supply base.

Leads functional analysis and enterprise deployment of PLEX MES/QMS, Infor ERP LN, and integrated manufacturing applications. Gathers requirements, designs processes, defines data mappings, supports SIT/UAT and regression testing, coordinates defect resolution, and assists with site readiness, cutover, go-live, and hypercare. Partners with manufacturing, quality, supply chain, IT, architecture, integration, and vendors while documenting solutions and transferring knowledge to internal support teams.

Provides technical leadership for purchased parts throughout the product lifecycle, including supplier quality, engineering drawing reviews, tooling, PPAP, FAPITP, and production approval. Serves as a liaison between suppliers, engineering, sourcing, and operations; leads root-cause analysis, corrective actions, quality metrics, supplier qualification, and continuous improvement projects. Requires knowledge of manufacturing processes, engineering practices, Lean principles, quality management, project management, and DOE. The role is onsite five days per week with some travel.

Lead cross-functional engineering teams to design, validate, and deliver complex components and systems. Define technology roadmaps, improve processes for efficiency and quality, implement engineering procedures, oversee product testing and manufacturability, and provide technical advisory and project management for product development through production.

Manages global aftermarket turbomachinery projects from order booking through field commissioning and customer acceptance. Oversees commercial, contractual, technical, scheduling, risk, quality, and profitability requirements for projects exceeding $30 million. Coordinates Sales, Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Logistics, Finance, customers, and senior stakeholders across Mexico and Latin America. Provides technical guidance related to turbine design and operations while supporting cross-functional execution and customer satisfaction. Travel of approximately 20% is required.
