Design, analyze, procure, assemble, align, and test precision opto-mechanical hardware for deep-UV, high-energy laser systems. Develop CAD models, GD&T drawings, tolerance stack-ups, FEA analyses, interface documents, and test plans. Owns adaptive optics and wavefront control for directed-energy laser systems, including requirements, performance modeling, error budgets, architecture, vendor engagement, integration, testing, and commissioning. The role leads technical trade studies, develops risk-reduction experiments, oversees closed-loop control integration, and translates beam-control advances to fusion programs. It also establishes group standards, mentors engineers and scientists, supports hiring, and directs technical work across partner and internal teams.

Develop adaptive optics systems for high-energy laser applications, including wave-optics models, control and optimization algorithms, beam shaping, wavefront sensing, deformable mirrors, alignment, calibration, and hardware integration. Characterize aberrations, turbulence, thermal drift, and vibration; define optical requirements and error budgets; collaborate with vendors and controls engineers; and document testing and calibration procedures for inertial fusion energy systems.

Lead cross-functional business operations strategy and execution, translating executive decisions into resourced initiatives. Own operational process design, documentation, training, rollout, adoption reviews, headcount planning, forecasting, knowledge management, risk mitigation, and data workflow improvements. Partner with Finance, PMO, and executive stakeholders on economic modeling, program prioritization, budgeting, board materials, and investor reporting. Manage ambiguous operational projects through implementation and sustainable handoff.

Operate, troubleshoot, maintain, and improve high-voltage pulsed-power systems for an experimental laser facility. Perform electrical diagnostics, waveform analysis, component testing, corrective and preventive maintenance, commissioning, and system upgrades. Develop operating procedures, checklists, alarms, interlocks, and equipment records. Qualify as a Pulsed Power Controller, execute laser experiment procedures, support Shot Directors, and contribute to root-cause investigations and reliability improvements.

A 12-week onsite engineering internship supporting the design and development of laser-driven inertial fusion hardware and software. Responsibilities may include controls systems engineering, mechanical and thermal analysis, systems engineering, manufacturing, electrical engineering, simulations, nuclear engineering, optics, plasma physics, and pulsed power. Interns will work with expert mentors on real-world fusion power plant challenges.

Owns and integrates the Plant Control System across Xcimer’s inertial fusion plant program. Responsibilities include requirements stewardship, interface coordination, technical integration, budgets, schedules, risk mitigation, verification planning, commissioning readiness, procurement, and vendor management. The role coordinates multidisciplinary teams across plant systems, guides decisions without direct authority, and communicates program status and risks to senior stakeholders.

Optimize manufacturing of optical assemblies and related hardware for quality, throughput, and schedule performance. Responsibilities include DFM/A, translating designs into production hardware, authoring work instructions, improving processes, supporting assembly and rework, managing configuration and procurement, maintaining equipment, resolving nonconformances, validating safety procedures, and mentoring manufacturing engineers and technicians.

Optimize manufacturing of pulsed power assemblies through DFM/A, work instructions, validation procedures, hands-on assembly support, quality improvement, configuration management, and repair or rework processes. The role translates engineering designs into operational hardware, supports production teams, manages procurement and equipment, validates safety procedures, resolves nonconformances, and mentors manufacturing engineers and technicians in an onsite R&D environment.
