The Special Assistant supports the CEO by managing their schedule, coordinating engagements, and ensuring effective communication across the organization to enhance mission impact for military families.

The Major Gifts Officer leads California fundraising strategy and manages a portfolio of high-capacity donors, corporate leaders, family foundations, and institutional partners. Responsibilities include securing major and principal gifts, cultivating prospects, developing pipelines, forecasting revenue, managing CRM activity, coordinating with development and national campaigns, attending philanthropic and civic events, and representing the organization. The role requires regular regional travel, periodic overnight travel, and occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work.

Leads national events and experiential strategy, VIP and high-net-worth stakeholder stewardship, and management of a 60+ member advisory board. Oversees event protocols, executive briefings, cultivation materials, departmental budgets, and an events and engagement team. Builds relationships with donors, public officials, corporate executives, and military-sector partners while collaborating across marketing, research, impact, and chapter teams. Requires frequent overnight travel and regular in-person presence in the Washington, D.C. Metro area.

Leads Blue Star Families’ flagship National Capital Region chapter, overseeing strategy, fundraising, operations, staff, volunteers, programs, partnerships, budget, and advisory board development. Builds relationships with Congress, government officials, donors, corporations, and community stakeholders; represents the organization at high-visibility engagements; grows revenue toward $1M+; ensures program quality, compliance, KPI performance, and brand stewardship. Requires frequent local DC-area travel, periodic overnight travel, and strong knowledge of the DMV region.

Provide operational support for the National Capital Region Chapter, managing event logistics, volunteer coordination, systems (Hivebrite/Salesforce) maintenance, administrative and executive support, and delivering high-quality member experiences across ~200 annual events. Role requires local residency and flexibility for evenings, weekends, and nearby program delivery.

Lead local fundraising by cultivating and stewarding individual, corporate, and foundation donors; manage a portfolio of major gift prospects; support grant writing and reporting; collaborate with chapter and national teams to meet a $100,000+ fundraising goal; manage donor records in CRM; plan and represent the chapter at events and community engagement opportunities.

Lead external visibility through media relations, social and influencer strategies, and brand partnerships. Develop integrated communications plans, manage agencies, create media materials, track and report performance, and represent the organization in the DC community. Lead and execute local chapter programs and events, grow membership and volunteers, support local fundraising and advocacy, steward partner relationships, manage project tools and metrics, and coordinate marketing/communications to advance chapter impact and sustainability.

Lead advancement services overseeing Salesforce CRM, data integrity, reporting, and prospect research. Build dashboards, manage prospect screening (iWave), train staff, partner with Tech, and support fundraising strategy and operations.

Serve as the sole in-house attorney and HR leader, providing strategic legal counsel, managing contracts and compliance, overseeing HR strategy and employee relations, leading risk management and governance, coordinating outside counsel, and supporting organizational operations, training, and investigations to enable mission-driven nonprofit work.
