Staff Attorney in NYLAG’s Special Litigation Unit will develop and litigate impact cases involving Medicaid, Medicare, public benefits, housing, disability rights, and healthcare access. Responsibilities include interviewing plaintiffs, drafting complaints and briefs, discovery, depositions, settlement negotiations, court appearances, individual advocacy, stakeholder collaboration, training, and mentoring. The role requires civil litigation experience, strong legal research and writing skills, commitment to public interest and racial justice, and admission to the New York Bar.

Represent LGBTQ+ immigrants in detained and non-detained removal defense, asylum claims, bond hearings, appeals, motions, and federal court matters. Prepare legal filings, conduct screenings, manage client cases and records, provide ancillary legal assistance, and support community outreach and systemic advocacy. Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, volunteers, agencies, and community partners while serving trauma-affected clients under competing deadlines.

Supervise attorneys, paralegals, and interns in NYLAG’s Manhattan Tenants’ Rights Unit; oversee case strategy, intake, litigation support, training, and professional development. Provide strategic leadership, manage programmatic issues and grants, conduct community outreach and trainings, build stakeholder relationships, and support policy advocacy, impact litigation, testimony, and appeals. The role may maintain a small caseload and requires strong housing law expertise, team leadership, and commitment to racial and housing justice.

Represents New York clients whose Social Security disability benefits were denied, terminated, or recouped. Responsibilities include client intake, medical-record review, legal research, case assessment, and advocacy before local offices, administrative law judges, and on appeal. The attorney manages a significant caseload, handles cases independently, collaborates with unit staff, and serves an underrepresented population with sensitivity and professionalism.

The Grant Officer manages the full grant lifecycle, including prospect research, proposal and report writing, renewals, funder stewardship, grant calendars, records, and submission deadlines. The role collaborates with development, legal, financial counseling, data, finance, and program staff to gather information, strengthen funding materials, monitor grant deliverables, maintain accurate records, and improve grant-management processes.

Provides substantive supervision to attorneys handling immigration removal defense, while maintaining a limited caseload of affirmative and defensive immigration matters. Represents clients before USCIS, EOIR, courts, and government agencies; develops legal strategies; strengthens intake and consultation procedures; trains staff; conducts community outreach; attends partner events; and tracks case and funding data.

Represent detained and non-detained immigrants in removal proceedings and related asylum, humanitarian, and family-based matters. Conduct screenings, prepare legal filings, attend immigration and family court proceedings, track cases, collaborate with community partners, participate in outreach, and mentor volunteers. The role requires Spanish fluency, litigation experience, trauma-informed advocacy, and a commitment to immigrant rights and social justice.

Represent immigrants in USCIS applications and Immigration Court proceedings; screen clients, prepare filings and supporting documents, conduct consultations, organize legal clinics and community presentations, train partner organizations, coordinate outreach, track cases, and submit reports. The role requires collaboration with attorneys, paralegals, community organizations, clients, and courts, along with a commitment to immigrant communities, social justice, and anti-racism.

Provides civil legal services to low-income clients with health-related legal needs at two weekly hospital clinics. Handles benefits, housing, employment, immigration, and advance-planning matters; staffs additional clinics as needed; trains and consults with medical professionals; and builds hospital-partner relationships. The position requires New York bar admission, in-person hospital work two days weekly, hospital clearance, and strong communication, research, writing, empathy, and problem-solving skills.

Work with NYLAG's Bronx Tenants' Rights Unit on affirmative housing litigation and eviction defense. Duties include client interviewing and advocacy, legal research and writing, drafting motions and pleadings, outreach, and participation in calls, meetings, and court appearances under attorney supervision.
