Develops infrastructure roadmaps, drives continuous improvement, ensures policy compliance, manages cross-functional initiatives, supervises staff, and supports research mission execution in a DOE national laboratory environment.

Designs, analyzes, fabricates, assembles, and tests mechanical and mechatronic systems for synchrotron beamlines and end stations. Collaborates with scientists and multidisciplinary engineering teams, manages project costs and schedules, coordinates vendors and manufacturing, and oversees inspections and commissioning. The role involves precision mechanics, flexure-based positioning, automation, thermal and fluid analysis, and potentially robotics, vacuum systems, X-ray optics, motion systems, and AI/ML engineering tools.

Leads Argonne’s Rapid Prototyping Laboratory and multidisciplinary research in autonomous laboratories, robotics, AI, data infrastructure, and computational science. Responsibilities include supervising and mentoring staff, recruiting researchers, guiding autonomous laboratory hardware and software development, fostering collaborations, reporting research progress, securing scientific impact through publications and presentations, and supporting DOE-relevant research initiatives.

Manages commercial and non-commercial subcontract procurement from pre-award planning through solicitation, evaluation, negotiation, award, administration, modification, termination, and closeout. Coordinates with internal departments, reviews statements of work, develops procurement objectives and evaluation criteria, performs price and cost analyses, ensures regulatory compliance, and provides proactive customer service. The largely remote role requires Central Time availability and may require onsite work.

Develop, test, and maintain Python-based software and AI-enabled tools to support scientific workflows. Build data ingestion, database interfaces, automation, web/desktop apps, testing, visualization, and apply ML/LLM methods. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, document and deploy reproducible research software, and support long-term maintainability in an on-site Argonne research environment.
