Lead go-to-market strategy and commercial growth for Wise’s marketplace vertical. Build ledger services, financial aggregation pipelines, APIs, and third-party integrations using Java, Spring Boot, PostgreSQL, Kafka, and React. Lead significant technical initiatives, contribute to the technical roadmap, ensure system reliability and security, manage technical debt, collaborate cross-functionally, mentor engineers, and uphold engineering best practices.

Process global customer payments accurately and efficiently, meet SLA and KPI targets, identify and escalate complex payment issues, follow operational procedures, communicate with stakeholders, and support continuous process improvement. The role requires flexibility to work occasional weekends and holidays to support customers worldwide.

The role requires strong product judgment, analytical and technical fluency, fintech expertise, and the ability to operate as both a hands-on contributor and player-coach.

Develop and improve reliable backend microservices across Wise. The role focuses on performance optimization, resilient architecture, capacity planning, autoscaling, redundancy, observability, and troubleshooting application, database, and data issues. The engineer will collaborate with product teams, implement reusable libraries and organization-wide reliability strategies, and influence teams to prioritize availability and customer experience in a Kubernetes-based cloud environment.

Architect and develop scalable Java backend services using Spring Boot, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and microservices. Own public API standards, authentication, SDKs, and developer tooling while ensuring security, availability, and usability for global partners. Own SMB demand strategy for Wise Platform’s North American Payouts team by managing inbound leads, executing outbound prospecting, building scalable routing and handoff processes, maintaining accurate CRM data, and closing small, high-velocity deals. The role reports to the Head of Payouts, is based in Austin with flexible remote and office work, and requires approximately 20% travel to New York.
