Develops strategic communications and high-quality Spanish-language content for CIMMYT’s Latin America projects. Translates scientific information into accessible articles, stories, press materials, reports, digital campaigns, and multimedia content. Coordinates regional communications, media and executive messaging, field storytelling, partner visibility, advocacy, and donor recognition while ensuring editorial quality, scientific accuracy, brand consistency, and digital performance.

Leads the Program Finance Management Unit and provides strategic financial leadership across institutional programs. Oversees financial planning, forecasting, portfolio monitoring, donor financial management, governance, controls, compliance, and standardization. Partners with program directors, senior management, finance leaders, and donors while leading finance teams, workforce planning, capability development, and continuous improvement. The role is based at CIMMYT headquarters in Texcoco, Mexico, and requires extensive experience in donor-funded and international environments.

Designs and strengthens institutional partnership management systems for international research programs. Responsibilities include diagnosing processes, developing partnership frameworks and lifecycle procedures, designing due diligence and monitoring tools, defining ERP and dashboard requirements, preparing implementation roadmaps, coordinating cross-functional stakeholders, and transferring knowledge to staff. The consultant works independently in a part-time, primarily home-based engagement with occasional missions to CIMMYT headquarters in Mexico.

Supports institutional and project financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, reconciliations, reporting, donor-funded project finance, compliance, and audit activities. Maintains financial data and project records, validates budget adjustments, and collaborates with research and operational teams to provide financial guidance and decision support.

Build and manage donor and institutional partner relationships, support fundraising and partnership pipelines, and coordinate donor engagement plans. The role develops CRM and donor database systems, provides relationship-management tools and training, supports proposal development and donor communications, tracks pipeline performance, and may lead a small partnerships or donor relations team.

Leads CIMMYT’s Financial Planning and Analysis Unit, overseeing institutional budgeting, forecasting, costing, chargebacks, management reporting, and financial planning. Maintains budget policies, costing manuals, and chargeback methodologies while ensuring compliance with IFRS, NIF, CGIAR, and donor requirements. Manages finance leaders, oversees budgeting and costing systems in Microsoft Dynamics 365, supports financial transformation, ensures data governance, and provides external reporting for CGIAR science programs. Acts as the senior technical authority and stakeholder representative for institutional financial planning.

Leads CIMMYT’s communications strategy, content production, digital and social campaigns, executive communications, media coordination, and performance reporting. The role manages editorial standards, content calendars, website and social channels, stakeholder and donor communications, freelance specialists, budgets, and a Content Analyst. It translates agricultural research into compelling, audience-focused communications while strengthening CIMMYT’s reputation and global digital presence.
