Provides statewide leadership and coordination for North Carolina heart disease, stroke prevention, physical activity, and nutrition initiatives. Leads the Justus Warren Task Force and Stroke Advisory Council, including meetings, annual reports, action agendas, appointments, and communications. The Engineer II inspects and evaluates public water supply systems for compliance with federal and North Carolina drinking water regulations. Responsibilities include conducting sanitary surveys, investigating violations and complaints, reviewing engineering plans, providing technical and regulatory assistance, preparing enforcement actions, maintaining regulatory expertise, and training stakeholders. The role requires field investigations in challenging conditions, occasional overnight travel, driving a state vehicle, and physical ability to lift 50 pounds and walk through rough terrain.

Provides clerical and administrative support to probation and parole staff. Responsibilities include greeting visitors, answering calls, managing records and reports, entering data in OPUS, preparing documents, maintaining schedules and calendars, reconciling monthly reports, managing inventories and supplies, organizing files, processing mail, and handling email correspondence.

Supports end users and vendor meetings while monitoring contract compliance.

Determines applicants’ eligibility for unemployment insurance benefits by reviewing claim information, investigating conflicting details, documenting case files, and applying North Carolina employment security laws. Makes formal eligibility determinations and first-level decisions regarding continued benefit eligibility. The role requires analyzing facts, interpreting laws and rules, communicating with applicants and employers, and processing claims accurately in a production-oriented environment.

Represent North Carolina in complex criminal appeals and federal habeas litigation, prepare appellate briefs, present oral argument, advise prosecutors and DOJ attorneys, and handle capital and post-conviction matters. Occasional travel and overnight stays required.

Magistrates evaluate criminal charge requests, issue criminal process and search warrants, conduct initial appearances and bond hearings, preside over Small Claims Court, and perform marriage ceremonies. The role requires sound judgment, effective communication, computer and office skills, knowledge of North Carolina court procedures, and availability for irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Applicants must reside in New Hanover County or a contiguous county and meet specified education or related-experience requirements.

Assists with annual financial reporting, accruals, lease accounting, year-end journal entries, cost reports, allocations, inventory, and complex account reconciliations. Supports internal control documentation and evaluation through EAGLE, and helps develop and update fiscal policies to ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
