Build core electro-optics and laser hardware capabilities in a startup environment. The role spans electronic hardware, controls, systems, firmware, programming, optics, test and measurement, and system validation. The engineer will solve complex technical problems hands-on in a startup environment, develop core hardware capabilities, and apply analytical and experimental methods to validate performance. High-power laser safety expertise is preferred.

Design, fabricate, simulate, and test multidisciplinary electro-optical laser hardware and systems. The role requires hands-on expertise across electronics, controls, firmware, programming, optics, lasers, measurement, and system design, with exceptional depth in at least one area. The engineer will generate and control high-precision, high-power lasers, perform real-world experimentation, validate performance, and contribute to building foundational hardware capabilities in a fast-paced startup environment.

Supports robotics process engineering in a hands-on startup environment. Plans, collects, analyzes, and communicates technical data; applies knowledge of materials, mechanisms, fabrication, heat and mass transfer, optics, CAD, programming, and machine shop tools. Collaborates with teammates and leadership, develops engineering practices, fulfills commitments, and grows technical competency through mentorship and initiative.

Design precision opto-mechanical components and fixtures for photonic systems, perform tolerance and thermal/FEA analyses, create GD&T fabrication drawings, manage BOMs and ECOs, support prototyping and production tooling, perform cleanroom assembly and alignment (adhesive bonding, soldering), and assist in root-cause/failure analysis for production issues.

Design, develop, package, and validate photonic components (isolators, switches, fiber connectors, AOMs). Perform optical modeling, opto-mechanical design, alignment, testing, reliability/failure analysis, and support scaling prototypes to high-volume manufacturing while collaborating with cross-functional teams and suppliers.

Leads electrical integration of photonics light-engine server racks, including power, harnesses, thermal interfaces, and EMI/EMC compliance. Drives architecture decisions, requirements translation, vendor coordination, project schedules, design and test reviews, integration events, documentation, and customer delivery. Requires independent project execution across electrical, mechanical, firmware, software, and contract manufacturing teams.

Design and integrate electrical, controls, power, and cable-management for automated capital equipment. Create and maintain schematics (Altium/Visio), architect AC/DC power distribution, specify cable carriers and safety systems, and drive projects from concept through build and commissioning across mechanical, electrical, and controls disciplines.

Lead cross-functional integration and delivery of photonics server racks, manage scope/schedule/budget, translate customer requirements into design, coordinate internal teams and vendors, run reviews and testing, mitigate risks, and deliver installation and support activities.
