Design, build, and operate reliable cloud-native systems supporting Southwest’s agentic AI initiatives. Develop AI workflows, microservices, APIs, integrations, and production services; lead technical direction and feature roadmaps; ensure code quality, testing, observability, security, and operational readiness; prevent and resolve production issues; collaborate with product and AI teams; and mentor software engineers.

Lead a software development team in designing, building, testing, deploying, and operating reliable applications. Provide technical oversight for architecture, code quality, performance testing, automation, technical debt, and production releases. Partner with business, data science, and technology teams to translate workflows into scalable solutions, manage AWS data systems, automate testing and releases, optimize production performance, and support forecasting, scenario modeling, and scheduling decisions. Serve as a technical-business bridge, lead projects, mentor junior team members, and identify process improvements.

Supports cybersecurity projects across threat-informed defense and governance, risk, and compliance teams. Duties may include threat investigation, vulnerability assessments, security documentation, risk assessments, compliance, privacy initiatives, metrics reporting, systems testing, and stakeholder communication. The intern works full-time remotely, collaborates with Technology and business teams, and helps improve security controls and organizational risk management.

Software Engineering Interns support design, development, testing, documentation, deployment, and production troubleshooting for enterprise, airline operations, cloud, integration, and revenue technology systems. Interns collaborate with engineers, architects, product teams, and business stakeholders while contributing to AWS cloud migration, APIs, data transformations, automation, and mission-critical applications. The full-time remote internship runs January 26 through April 23, 2027, and requires current student enrollment and U.S. work authorization without sponsorship.

Supports workforce analytics, strategic planning, reporting, data quality, and capacity planning for the Technology Workforce Strategy team. The intern conducts business and systems needs analysis, helps design and test technical solutions, supports process improvement, and facilitates communication between Technology and business teams. The role requires data visualization, reporting, logical problem-solving, project coordination, and collaboration with Technology leaders, HR, FP&A, and workforce stakeholders.
