The General Counsel will provide legal and strategic guidance to LSNYC leadership, focusing on labor and employment matters, union grievances, collective bargaining, litigation, risk management, contracts, leases, governance, compliance, and professional responsibility. The role supervises the Compliance department, develops organizational policies, works with outside counsel, and advises on nonprofit regulatory obligations. Candidates must have a JD, New York bar admission or eligibility, at least 10 years of legal experience, and substantial management experience in a unionized nonprofit environment.

Manages pre- and post-award grant accounting, including contract reconciliations, financial reporting, vouchers, journal entries, grant closeouts, budget support, compliance monitoring, and audit preparation. The role coordinates with finance, contract management, field offices, and grant personnel to ensure accurate funding allocations, timely submissions, adherence to GAAP and federal regulations, and reliable financial records.

Provides deportation defense in immigration court, handles BIA appeals and affirmative immigration matters before USCIS, and represents clients in SIJS-related family court proceedings. Conducts intake, outreach, community education, and collaborative advocacy with social workers, attorneys, community organizations, and pro bono partners. Manages a high-volume caseload, completes compliance administration, and may litigate habeas petitions.

Experienced immigration attorney coordinating high-volume pro bono services. Provides expert support and mentorship to volunteer attorneys handling removal defense, detained matters, asylum, VAWA, U visas, SIJS, adjustment of status, naturalization, and federal habeas litigation. Leads clinics, trainings, case screening and placements, program development, reporting, database tracking, and law firm outreach while maintaining a small direct representation caseload.

Provides comprehensive immigration legal services to low-income clients, with a significant focus on domestic violence survivors. Handles affirmative and defensive matters including SIJS, asylum, U and T visas, VAWA, waivers, family petitions, adjustment of status, removal defense, and Family Court cases. Represents clients before administrative bodies and courts, collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, conducts community outreach and legal education, prepares reports, and supports trauma-informed advocacy.

Represent low-income New York City tenants in housing court, administrative hearings, and state and federal litigation. Responsibilities include case intake, full legal representation, legal advice, community clinics, know-your-rights workshops, advocacy trainings, and identifying issues for impact litigation. Attorneys will develop expertise in housing law, public benefits, and housing subsidies while advancing tenant rights and preventing evictions.

Leads an interdisciplinary immigration rights unit, supervising attorneys, paralegals, and a social worker while maintaining a limited caseload. Provides legal guidance, handles immigration and court matters, supports impact litigation and advocacy, contributes to grant reporting, and builds community partnerships. The role includes outreach clinics, stakeholder meetings, trauma-informed client representation, staff development, and collaboration with community organizations and LSNYC immigration advocates.
