The Machine Learning Postdoctoral Researcher will engage in R&D for machine learning applications in AI Safety & Security, collaborating on interdisciplinary projects, and developing methods to enhance model safety and trustworthiness.

Lead architecture, development, deployment, and lifecycle support of generative AI and LLM-enabled applications. Design scalable, secure cloud and on-prem solutions (Kubernetes/containerized), backend services, APIs, retrieval-grounded systems, semantic search, and observability. Drive engineering best practices, mentor teams, partner with domain experts, and operationalize production-ready AI capabilities.

Conduct research in bioinformatics, analyzing datasets and developing computational tools for pathogen detection through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.

As a Data Science Engineer, you will apply machine learning and AI techniques to national security datasets, developing data pipelines and AI-driven capabilities with support from senior engineers.

Support criticality safety evaluations, inspections, and documentation for fissionable material operations. Assist with data analysis, training, reviews, and technical support; may lead experiments and present results at senior level.

Support various projects involving vibration and shock testing, conduct tests, analyze results, and maintain test equipment. Collaborate with diverse teams and participate in design reviews.

Perform AI/ML research to develop, train, test, optimize, and deploy models for laser performance prediction, optimization, and anomaly detection on NIF. Collaborate with operations and engineering teams, validate ML against physics models and experiments, integrate tools into workflows, publish results, and support team adoption of scientific ML techniques.

Design, implement, and support enterprise AI infrastructure and pipelines; optimize workflows via automation and IaC; integrate and evaluate GenAI/MLOps tools; ensure security compliance; monitor performance for scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency; collaborate with engineers, IT, and stakeholders. SES.4 adds system lifecycle leadership and mentoring.

Provide advanced procurement and coordination support for electronic and mechanical fabrication, working with engineers and suppliers to purchase parts and assemblies, manage BOMs, track awards/deliveries, stage and transport parts on-site, and resolve supply issues to meet project cost and schedule requirements. Support may include leading project teams and performing hands-on staging and pickup.
