Unpaid legal internship supporting NYLAG’s LegalHealth generalist practice. Interns will assist with client intake, legal research and writing, drafting pleadings and motions, client advocacy, government benefits and housing matters, immigration status, estate planning, and client file maintenance while working with staff lawyers and paralegals.

Provide client-centered civil legal services to New York City residents affected by changes to SNAP, Medicaid, and other public benefits. Conduct intakes, offer advice and representation, deliver Know Your Rights presentations, conduct community outreach, collaborate with legal and community partners, identify impact litigation opportunities, maintain case records, and support pro bono attorneys and volunteers.

Temporary Staff Attorney responsible for analyzing approximately 150 unemployment insurance cases, advising and representing clients, litigating appeals, and recommending next steps to project directors. Duties also include maintaining case management records, updating files and notes, coordinating case closures, and handling high-volume communications. The role requires a law degree, New York State Bar admission, strong legal analysis and organization, and client-centered representation skills.

Supervises attorneys handling immigration removal defense, maintains a limited caseload, develops client-centered legal strategies, and supports training, outreach, screenings, and community advocacy. Responsibilities include court advocacy, legal screenings, advice and counsel, asylum and employment authorization filings, motions, client representation, post-detention support, outreach clinics, stakeholder coordination, and volunteer mentoring. The role focuses on removal defense, asylum, humanitarian relief, and trauma-informed advocacy within New York City immigration courts and community settings.

Staff Attorney in NYLAG’s Special Litigation Unit will develop and litigate impact cases involving Medicaid, Medicare, public benefits, housing, disability rights, and healthcare access. Responsibilities include interviewing plaintiffs, drafting complaints and briefs, discovery, depositions, settlement negotiations, court appearances, individual advocacy, stakeholder collaboration, training, and mentoring. The role requires civil litigation experience, strong legal research and writing skills, commitment to public interest and racial justice, and admission to the New York Bar.

Supports immigration legal services for detained or at-risk New York residents. Screens clients, assesses eligibility, collects documents, prepares forms and evidence, interviews clients and witnesses, assists with legal research and drafting, manages case data, provides translation and interpretation, coordinates referrals, and maintains partner relationships under attorney supervision.

Represent LGBTQ+ immigrants in detained and non-detained removal defense, asylum claims, bond hearings, appeals, motions, and federal court matters. Prepare legal filings, conduct screenings, manage client cases and records, provide ancillary legal assistance, and support community outreach and systemic advocacy. Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, volunteers, agencies, and community partners while serving trauma-affected clients under competing deadlines.

Supervise attorneys, paralegals, and interns in NYLAG’s Manhattan Tenants’ Rights Unit; oversee case strategy, intake, litigation support, training, and professional development. Provide strategic leadership, manage programmatic issues and grants, conduct community outreach and trainings, build stakeholder relationships, and support policy advocacy, impact litigation, testimony, and appeals. The role may maintain a small caseload and requires strong housing law expertise, team leadership, and commitment to racial and housing justice.
