As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will build relationships with the Ministry of Health in Zambia, deliver rapid technical solutions, lead local teams, and integrate complex health data systems.

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you will work embedded within Malawi's Ministry of Health, delivering technical solutions, managing client relationships, and building local capacity for sustainable health system improvements.

The Forward Deployed Engineer serves as a permanent technical presence within the Ministry of Health in Nigeria, delivering solutions and building relationships to enhance health systems using Sand's AI products.

The Forward Deployed Engineer will work with the DRC Ministry of Health to implement and manage AI-based health systems, ensure solutions meet operational needs, and build local capacity.

Own and operate production Kubernetes platforms across cloud (AWS EKS) and on-prem/bare-metal, implement GitOps (Argo CD/Flux), build self-service tooling (Helm, operators/CRDs), define SLOs and incident response, develop observability (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry), maintain CI/CD pipelines, automate infrastructure as code, and troubleshoot infrastructure and cluster issues to ensure reliable mission-critical workloads.

Design, build, and scale backend services, microservices, APIs, and secure cloud applications for physical AI solutions. Integrate AI models and data pipelines, manage infrastructure across AWS, Azure, or GCP, implement testing and CI/CD practices, support real-time data systems, and mentor junior engineers. The role also requires front-end development with React and JavaScript, SQL database work, data visualization, production deployments, and frequent client-site travel.

Lead development and deployment of machine learning models for healthcare problems, collaborate with clinical and engineering teams to integrate models into production, mentor junior data scientists, maintain best practices in MLOps, data governance and ethics, and communicate technical results and clinical impact to stakeholders.

Lead healthcare-focused data science: set vision and roadmap, drive research and production ML solutions, mentor data scientists, align cross-functional teams, improve data foundations, and provide organizational data science leadership.

Lead and deliver high-impact ML solutions for telecommunications: set vision and roadmaps, implement and oversee research-grade models, mentor data scientists, align cross-functional teams, improve data foundations, and scale robust MLOps-driven products.

Architect and build core Decision Intelligence platform capabilities: heterogeneous data integration, semantic modeling, simulation and optimization services, scalable distributed backend systems, AI/ML and LLM-powered production deployments, data pipelines, and operational tooling. Provide technical leadership, own full lifecycle from design to production, improve reliability, observability, and drive engineering excellence.
