Link Coworking came about in a way that many businesses do—a need arose in the market and no one was meeting that need. Liz Elam spent 14 years working for Dell inc, and managed a highly successful and profitable multi-million dollar business from her home office. She often found herself jockeying for cord position at Starbucks, speaking in hushed tones and looking over her shoulder. If not at a coffee shop she was renting expensive meeting space or working in relative isolation in her home. She had a need for a professional, welcoming space that provided meeting rooms, connectivity and most importantly, human interaction. Coworking is the term that caught on to describe these new innovative spaces.
Each semester we provide our Lab teams about 25 experienced, successful, insightful and committed entrepreneurs from the Austin startup community. Each team must have one or more mentors from this roster; mentors and teams are matched by mutual interest early in the semester. These mentors provide ongoing practical advice and help connect teams to relevant networks of outside resources. Mentors are invited to all class sessions and generally meet weekly with their teams. They are an especially valuable asset of the Longhorn Startup program.

Plug Cambridge, a recently opened Coworking and innovation center on 618 Cambridge St, in Cambridge is the newest branch of the Plug Coworking ecosystem founded in Sao Paulo, Brazil. At Plug we believe that we can revolutionize the Coworking industry! This is how: - First, we include underrepresented groups in the innovation economy. Only four percent of businesses in technology-based growth industries are minority-owned, according to a 2012 PolicyBridge report. In addition to being the first minority owned Coworking space in the area. - Second, we are the bridge between starts ups from other parts of the world and the Boston startup ecosystem. We are starting with Latin America, where our roots are, tapping into the 100+ currently residing in the Plug Brazil ecosystem. - Third, we believe that providing a beautiful place to work is no longer sufficient. We want to know our members and help them build beneficial relationships and meet the right people to help them grow as entrepreneurs, freelancers or whatever they’d like to do.

Want to learn how to code? Have a great idea? Don't be shy. Develop it. It can be intimidating for women to learn and ask questions when they are in an extreme minority. While open and welcoming, today's budding developer community is up to 91% male. There isn't a comfortable place where women can learn at their own pace and not be afraid to ask "stupid questions." We decided it was time to provide a place where all questions are OK and everyone can learn in a supportive environment. Our courses focus on coding, leveraging existing technology, and having something to show for it (aka building sweet websites).
