Very few people leave school with the goal of becoming a recruiter. If you ask around, the majority of recruiting professionals develop into the role. Either they were already in the human resources field and it was a natural transition, or they took some other non-linear career path. Because recruiting isn’t really taught in schools, it can be difficult to become an accredited professional.

That’s where recruitment certifications come in.

What Is a Recruiter Certification?

Recruiter certifications are credentials offered by educational institutions, professional associations or companies to help novice and seasoned recruiting professionals demonstrate to employers they have the skills to source, engage and hire top talent. This professional development option can help HR professionals advance in their careers and develop specific expertise.

Plenty of educational institutions offer ways for novice and seasoned recruiting professionals to advance in their careers. To help you figure out which courses are right for your interest and experience, we’ve rounded up a list of 31 recruitment certifications.

Benefits of a Recruiter Certification

Reasons to consider obtaining a recruiter certification include developing specialized expertise and moving into a more advanced recruiting role within your organization.

Six in 10 professionals say they’re seeking out learning opportunities beyond what’s offered by their employers, and roughly one-third of those learning hungry employees are working on their own to acquire certifications.

In the field of recruiting and human resources, training courses and certifications can help professionals show employers they have the foundational knowledge and skillsets to be efficient in sourcing, engaging and ultimately hiring top talent. For example, the Society for Human Resource Management says more than 90 percent of its certification recipients report having “current and up-to-date information regarding HR best practices” and “are prepared for business situations.”

Some certifications help recruiters prove they’ve learned and refined the particular skills necessary to tackle some of the most important elements of recruiting and hiring. Others help recruiters understand best practices for diversifying their candidate pool, sourcing talent through various social media platforms and engaging highly-skilled military veterans.

Certifications can even provide opportunities for networking. Some programs come with access to private Facebook groups to facilitate connections with professionals who are also working to advance their careers. Others include office hours so that you can have one-on-one time with experts.

If you’re looking to climb to the next rung on the career leader, certifications can offer a boost. A Payscale survey found HR certification holders see higher pay and increased likelihood of receiving a promotion.
