Software Companies in India to Know

Toast aims to simplify many of the essential, high-urgency processes of the restaurant industry with its business intelligence platform. Serving establishments ranging from fine-dining to food trucks, its software products help restaurants process payments, handle online orders, manage employees’ payroll and more. The Boston-based company acquired Indian restaurant management startup xtraCHEF in 2021, and has maintained a strong presence in the country ever since. It now has offices in Bangalore and Chennai, where it has large engineering, IT and administrative services teams.

 

Intuit provides financial management software to consumers, self-employed individuals and businesses. Some of its most popular products include tax preparation assistant TurboTax, credit monitoring service Credit Karma and accounting program QuickBooks. In 2021, the company also acquired email marketing company Mailchimp to better serve small businesses and help them grow. Headquartered in California, Intuit’s only India office is in Bangalore, where it employs about 2,000 people.

 

Clari makes software for revenue management, which is used by client companies to understand and predict where and when to expect shifts in their revenue streams. In addition to the platform, the company also offers a la carte software products, including software for analytics, data capture, account inspection, revenue forecasting and pipeline management. In India, the company maintains a local hub in Bangalore

 

Amazon is a global technology powerhouse, operating the largest online retail platform in the world and the top cloud computing platform, Amazon Web Services. Despite being headquartered in Seattle, Washington, Amazon has invested billions of dollars in its India business over the years, and plans to invest another $15 billion here by 2030. In fact, its largest corporate office outside of the United States is in Hyderabad, according to the company, and it has numerous locations throughout Bangalore. 

 

Outside its head office in New York New York, IBM has about 130,000 employees in India, where it has a regional headquarters and research facility in Bangalore, along with several more research facilities in Gurugram, Delhi and Mumbai. Founded in 1911, IBM is one of the oldest and largest tech companies in the world, providing a range of software, hardware and cloud infrastructure services. It is also a trailblazer in artificial general intelligence, blockchain, quantum computing and other emerging tech fields.

 

Reorg serves more than 30,000 professionals such as hedge funds, asset managers, investment banks, law firms and financial advisors with solutions for accessing business information and comprehensive views of credit situations. Its machine learning-powered platform leverages natural language processing applications and includes Reorg’s CreditAI feature. 

 

Beyond its eponymous search engine, Google is known for its innovations in cloud computing, adtech, and artificial intelligence and many more areas in tech — especially the development of its AI assistant and generative AI tools like Gemini. The tech giant is headquartered in California, but has many large offices throughout India, establishing it as one of Google’s largest employee bases in the world. Looking ahead, the company is looking to strengthen its ties with India even more with a $10 billion investment in the country’s digital evolution.

 

Tech Mahindra is an IT services and consulting company, helping thousands of global customers leverage technology like 5G, AI and the metaverse. It also develops software solutions for industries ranging from banking to media. In 2013, Tech Mahindra finalized its merger with Indian tech giant Satyam, making it the fifth-largest software company in the country. The Pune-based company employs nearly 100,000 people throughout India, with additional offices in Bangalore, Chennai and Mumbai.

 

Digital payments giant PayPal enables individuals from all over the world to send and receive money electronically. It also operates as a payment processor for online retailers, auction sites and other commercial users. The company is headquartered in California, but has technology centers in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad. These are PayPal’s largest offices outside of the United States, according to its website.

 

Celonis developed a process intelligence platform that equips businesses with a digital twin of their end-to-end processes based on date from their internal systems. The company helps organizations better understand how their operations are running so they can find and capture hidden value. Celonis operates an office in Bangalore that houses approximately 100 employees.

 

Enfusion offers SaaS for investment institutions. It aims to eliminate the information boundaries and provide real-time financial data for professionals like CFOs, traders and asset managers. The company has Indian offices in Bengaluru and Mumbai. 

 

Founded as Hindustan Computers in 1976, HCL Technologies entered the software space in 1999, and then rebranded to HCLTech in 2022. The IT services and consulting company primarily assists businesses with digital engineering, cloud adoption and IoT solutions. It also operates a software division that has developed solutions for automation, analytics, security and digital transformation. HCLTech is headquartered in Noida, with several more offices in Bangalore, Chennai, Gurugram, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune.

 

Oracle sells software, hardware and cloud-based services that help businesses all over the world mine, store, manage and retrieve their data. The company also owns programming language platform Java and relational database management system MySQL. Outside of its headquarters in Texas, Oracle has about 40,000 employees in India, with offices in Noida, Bangalore and Gurugram. And Financial Services Software, an Oracle subsidiary that develops products for banks and insurance companies, is based in Mumbai.

 

With digital health platform Zocdoc, users can schedule appointments with healthcare professionals in their area based on what insurance they have and what kind of specialist they need (dentistry, therapy, orthopedics, etc.). The company also offers various software solutions to support medical practices, enabling them to attract new patients and see them virtually. Zocdoc is headquartered in New York but has a large office in Pune, where it has employees working in finance, sales, marketing, software engineering and more.

 

ServiceNow offers cloud-based solutions for workflow automation and IT service management, helping companies undergo digital transformations. The company’s India-based team makes up 15 percent of its workforce and develops offerings across generative artificial intelligence solutions. ServiceNow works to help businesses streamline their operations and enhance productivity.

 

Course Hero makes educational software that brings study tools, tutoring options and educational resources to students and instructors. Through Course Hero’s digital platform, students can access a deep repository of resources like study guides and practice exams to supplement the curriculum they receive from their teachers and enhance their learning experiences. 

 

PureSpectrum offers an end-to-end platform designed to simplify market research. Its platform provides real-time insights to show researchers how their consumer research is trending, and it lets them access analytics and results instantly. PureSpectrum’s footprint spans more than nine countries with its India office in Hyderabad.

 

AI and IoT company Samsara is opening a new subsidiary, Samsara Technologies India, in Bengaluru, with plans to develop new products and features. The company, which develops platforms to track hardware data, partners with construction, transportation, manufacturing, retail, logistics and public sector organizations. Samsara plans to hire for roles in engineering, IT and operations in its Bengaluru location.

 

Envoy Global offers a full-service immigration management platform. The company prioritizes security and mobility, aiming to streamline hiring and management processes for companies onboarding international workers. Its solution combines legal representation for inbound and outbound immigration with its proprietary tech solution.

 

Acquia says its technology allows organizations across a variety of industries to launch digital experiences that are secure and accessible. Its products include tools for streamlining digital asset management and centralizing access to valuable customer data. The company hires remote employees in India in addition to running a Pune office location that opened in 2019.

 

Accenture develops software to help businesses streamline their operations. With more than 730,000 employees globally, it is also one of the largest tech consulting firms in the world, offering expertise in everything from cybersecurity to custom software development. The Dublin-based company has a huge presence here in India, with six offices in Bangalore alone. It also has multiple offices in Pune, Noida, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Gurugram.

 

With a team of more than 11,00 employees globally, Pune-based KPIT Technologies has engineering centers in the United States, Europe, Japan and China, as well as India. The company makes embedded software and product engineering services to automotive companies, including tech for autonomous driving, IoT connectivity and vehicle design. Throughout its history, KPIT has filed more than 50 patents, published research papers and garnered several awards for contributions to sustainability and transportation.

 

Navan is a corporate travel and expense management company offering a comprehensive app that makes it easy for employees to manage their trips, report expenses, access rewards and more. The company’s technology serves EAs, finance teams, travel managers and employees while providing organizations with real-time visibility, savings and control.

 

Schrödinger offers molecular simulations as well as enterprise software solutions and services to help fuel research in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and materials science sectors. The company also has drug discovery programs spanning a range of therapeutic areas. Its software helps scientists fuel R&D, reduce research costs and make discoveries.

 

Microsoft is one of the most prominent tech companies in the world, known for its Windows operating system, Xbox gaming console and suite of software staples like Word, Excel and Powerpoint. It is also a key player in web search, artificial intelligence and spatial computing. Its Snap Insights tool, for example, leverages analytics capabilities to provide data insights that are relevant to specific roles. The company’s presence in India encompasses office locations in Visakhatpatnam and Hyderabad.

 

Adyen engineers fintech solutions that businesses across a variety of industries rely on for payment processing and streamlining financial management. The company works with a global roster of clients that includes well-known names such as Etsy, Uber, Crocs, Booking.com and Microsoft.

 

Boasting more than $31 billion in revenue in 2023, Salesforce is one of the largest software companies in the world. Its suite of customer relationship management products and services are used by companies all over the world, helping them streamline their sales, marketing and e-commerce operations through automation and analytics. The San Francisco-based company has offices all over the world, including in Bangalore, Pune and Mumbai. But Salesforce says most of its India employees work out of its Centre of Excellence in Hyderabad, which houses its largest international engineering and customer success teams.

 

CSC is a provider of business administration and compliance solutions. The company also supplies alternative asset managers with specialized administration services across various fund strategies. CSC’s solutions cover capital markets transactions, digital brand and fraud protection, corporate tax software and more. 

 

Atlassian is a software development company offering solutions such as Jira, a project management tool that supports teams ranging from marketing to IT, and Trello, a tool for visual workflow and task management. Its solutions serve businesses of varying sizes across industries like retail, telecommunications and government. The company has an office in Bengaluru, but also hires for remote roles in India.

 

Pluralsight provides a learning platform focused on advancing the technology skills and capabilities of technology professionals. The company’s platform offers curated content, skill assessments and hands-on learning experinces to enable upskilling in areas like artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, software development and machine learning.

 

Headquartered in Pune, Zensar Technologies has offices all over the world, employing more than 10,500 people globally, according to its website. The company provides a broad range of software solutions to its 145 clients, involving everything from AI engineering to data analytics to cybersecurity. A subsidiary of the multi-billion dollar Indian industrial services conglomerate RPG Group, Zensar’s stock trades on both the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange of India.

 

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is one of the most valuable corporations in India, boasting a market capitalization of more than $180 billion. Founded in 1968, it is also one of the oldest. The company operates under Tata Group, the nation’s largest conglomerate, offering a suite of software solutions for the finance, pharmaceutical and telecommunications industries. TCS is headquartered in Mumbai and has several offices in Bangalore and Chennai.

 

Cisco makes a variety of networking, collaboration, security and data center software, including a video conferencing platform called Webex and a cybersecurity tool called Firepower. The California-based company has more than 80,000 global employees  — about 12,000 of whom work out of its development center in Bangalore, which makes it the company’s largest office outside of the United States. Cisco also has several sales offices throughout India, including in Pune and Mumbai. 

 

California-based software giant Adobe has nearly 8,000 employees across five cities in India, which reportedly makes the country its largest employee hub outside of the United States. The company’s products — including image editing tool Photoshop, illustration app Illustrator and graphic design software InDesign — are staples in the media and content creation industries. It also offers various B2B e-commerce tools, which help businesses send targeted content and messaging to customers using AI. 

 

As India’s second-largest IT firm, Infosys offers a range of services, including cloud migration and deployment, custom app development and cybersecurity. It also builds software to assist with marketing, customer engagement and other business functions, helping clients in more than 50 countries navigate their digital transformation. The company’s headquarters is in Bangalore, where it operates a research facility for artificial intelligence, robotics and other cutting-edge tech. It also has offices in Pune, Chennai and Mumbai.
