Join MetLife's Financial Management Group (FMG), a strategic financial engine driving critical decision-making through financial planning, analysis, and risk management. As a member of the team, you'll be involved in topics including financial reporting, treasury, corporate actuarial, tax, investor relations and mergers and acquisitions. The Opportunity
The Derivatives Accounting & Reporting Intern is responsible for supporting core accounting, reconciliation, and reporting processes for derivative instruments, helping ensure accuracy, efficiency, and timely financial reporting across the Derivatives Accounting & Reporting function. This role supports the team's broader objective of maintaining high-quality financial reporting and operational excellence within MetLife's Investments Finance organization.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience with complex financial instruments, contribute to real-time reporting and automation initiatives, and develop practical technical and analytical skills in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and support monthly and quarterly reconciliations (e.g., GAAP, STAT, GL vs. subledger) to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
- Assist in the preparation and booking of journal entries for derivative activity, including supporting documentation and analysis
- Support derivative accounting and reporting processes, including data validation and review of system outputs (e.g., DAR, HFM)
- Perform data analysis and tie-outs across systems to ensure consistency between source systems, subledgers, and the general ledger
- Contribute to financial reporting deliverables, including internal reporting packages and regulatory disclosures
- Support automation and process improvement initiatives (e.g., Excel, Alteryx and AI workflows)
Required Qualifications
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with anticipated graduation date of May 2027
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to work with financial data
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., formulas, data analysis, basic modeling)
- Basic understanding of financial accounting concepts (GAAP fundamentals preferred)
Preferred Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in financial work
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $23 per hour . This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
