The Team You Will Join
Join MetLife's Financial Management Group (FMG), a strategic financial engine driving critical decision-making through financial planning, analysis, and risk management. As a member of the team, you'll be involved in topics including financial reporting, treasury, corporate actuarial, tax, investor relations and mergers and acquisitions. Positioned at the intersection of finance and strategy, you'll help ensure that MetLife meets customer obligations while supporting strategic objectives. The Opportunity
The Derivatives Accounting & Reporting Intern is responsible for supporting core accounting, reconciliation, and reporting processes for derivative instruments, helping ensure accuracy, efficiency, and timely financial reporting across the Derivatives Accounting & Reporting function. This role supports the team's broader objective of maintaining high-quality financial reporting and operational excellence within MetLife's Investments Finance organization.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience with complex financial instruments, contribute to real-time reporting and automation initiatives, and develop practical technical and analytical skills in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and support monthly and quarterly reconciliations (e.g., GAAP, STAT, GL vs. subledger) to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial data
  • Assist in the preparation and booking of journal entries for derivative activity, including supporting documentation and analysis
  • Support derivative accounting and reporting processes, including data validation and review of system outputs (e.g., DAR, HFM)
  • Perform data analysis and tie-outs across systems to ensure consistency between source systems, subledgers, and the general ledger
  • Contribute to financial reporting deliverables, including internal reporting packages and regulatory disclosures
  • Support automation and process improvement initiatives (e.g., Excel, Alteryx and AI workflows)

Required Qualifications
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field with anticipated graduation date of May 2027
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to work with financial data
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g., formulas, data analysis, basic modeling)
  • Basic understanding of financial accounting concepts (GAAP fundamentals preferred)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in financial work
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $23 per hour . This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
