Role Overview
We are hiring a hands-on Software Engineering Manager to lead the engineering team responsible for strengthening Nasuni’s ransomware detection and protection capabilities.
This team builds cloud-native services that collect and process system data, prepare it for machine learning workflows, train detection models, and reintegrate models into production systems to improve threat detection accuracy and recovery automation.
This role is ideal for a technical leader who:
- Still enjoys writing production-grade Python
- Understands AWS-based distributed systems
- Can translate architectural challenges into pragmatic solutions
- Has managed engineers through performance growth and delivery execution
This is not a pure cybersecurity research role. It is a cloud engineering leadership role building resilient, AI-enabled data protection systems.
Level & Scope Definition
This is a first-line engineering leadership role with domain ownership over ransomware detection services and ML data preparation pipelines.
You will:
- Lead and develop a team of ~5 software engineers
- Own architecture and technical decisions within your domain
- Drive sprint planning, estimation discipline, and backlog refinement
- Contribute directly to design reviews and critical code paths
- Ensure production reliability across AWS-native services
- Partner with Product, Security, Cloud Platform, and SRE teams
You are accountable for:
- Delivery predictability
- Service reliability and scalability
- Code quality and system maintainability
- Team performance and development
Responsibilities
- Architect and evolve Python-based services that collect, process, and prepare system data for machine learning workflows
- Design and operate AWS-native systems interacting with S3 and related cloud services
- Build tooling and data pipelines that feed ML training and enable model deployment back into production environments
- Ensure secure, resilient, and scalable distributed systems that support ransomware detection and response
- Lead agile execution: sprint planning, estimation, backlog refinement, and retrospectives
- Establish disciplined, data-informed engineering practices (avoid speculative estimates; use metrics)
- Conduct performance management and coach engineers for growth
- Review architecture decisions and provide technical direction grounded in system understanding
- Collaborate with Security teams to strengthen detection, data protection, and recovery workflows
- Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly to improve productivity while maintaining code quality and validation standards
Qualifications
Must-Have Qualifications
- 10+ years of software engineering experience
- 2+ years of direct people management experience
- Strong Python and/or C++ development experience in production systems
- Experience designing scalable backend or distributed systems
- Experience leading Agile/Scrum delivery processes
- Ability to understand full system data flows and architect improvements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building data pipelines that support ML training workflows
- Experience integrating ML models into production systems
- Familiarity with AWS S3 and object storage concepts
- Exposure to Terraform or infrastructure-as-code practices
- Experience in data protection, ransomware detection, or security-adjacent domains
- Familiarity with SMB or file system protocols
Ideal Qualifications
- Experience building detection or anomaly-based systems at scale
- Experience operating high-availability SaaS infrastructure
- Experience balancing hands-on coding with team leadership
- Experience using AI-assisted development tools responsibly in production engineering workflows
Experience Guidelines

- Demonstrated experience owning distributed systems or backend services at scale
