Role Overview
We are expanding our Platform Engineering team in Hyderabad and seeking a Software Engineer – Systems (Platform) to help build and evolve the Linux-based foundation of our NAS appliance platform.
This role is ideal for engineers who:
- Enjoy working close to the operating system
- Care about performance, reliability, and production stability
- Thrive debugging complex system-level issues
- Want to build appliance-grade software deployed globally
This role is not focused on frontend application development or pure cloud-native microservices work — it is deeply systems-oriented.
Level & Scope Definition
In this role, you will:
- Independently deliver features within defined subsystems of our Linux-based NAS platform
- Contribute to technical design discussions and implement production-grade systems code
- Debug complex issues across OS, filesystem, networking, and virtualization layers
- Collaborate with QA, support, and release engineering to ensure platform reliability
You will not be expected to:
- Define company-wide architecture
- Own multi-team platform strategy
- Manage people
This is a hands-on, systems-focused engineering role with component-level ownership.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement enhancements to Nasuni’s Linux-based NAS appliance platform
- Develop and maintain systems software supporting deployment, upgrades, and day-to-day operations
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues across Linux OS, storage, and networking layers
- Build automated tests (pytest or equivalent) to ensure system reliability
- Contribute to build and release workflows (CI/CD integration)
- Optimize system performance and resource utilization
- Work cross-functionally with Support and QA to address escalations and root-cause analysis
- Ensure code quality, security, and operational stability in production environments
Must-Have Qualifications
- 3–6 years of professional software engineering experience
- 2+ years building Linux-based systems or platform software
- Strong programming skills in Python and/or C/C++
- Hands-on experience with Linux internals (systemd, memory, storage, networking)
- Experience debugging production issues in Linux environments
- Understanding of filesystems (XFS, ext4) and system-level performance tuning
- Experience writing automated tests for systems-level code
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently within defined scope
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building or maintaining appliance-grade software
- Experience working with virtualization platforms (ESX, KVM, Hyper-V)
- Familiarity with rpm/yum packaging and Linux system provisioning
- Experience with CI/CD systems (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, etc.)
- Exposure to TCP/IP networking and I/O performance optimization
- Experience working in customer-facing production environments
Ideal Qualifications
- Experience integrating Linux systems with public cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
- Exposure to PostgreSQL in systems environments
- Kernel-level debugging experience
- Contributions to open-source Linux or systems projects
- Experience diagnosing complex I/O path or multithreading bottlenecks
Education
BE/B.Tech or ME/M.Tech in Computer Science, Electronics, or related discipline (or equivalent practical experience).
