Senior Software Engineer – Platform (Kubernetes CRD Operators)
Location: Hyderabad (Hybrid – 3 days in office)
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to build and scale Kubernetes-native platform capabilities that power Nasuni’s cloud file data platform. This role focuses on designing and implementing Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs) and Operators that enable our NAS platform to run seamlessly within Kubernetes environments.
You will work on complex distributed systems problems—translating storage behaviors into declarative, Kubernetes-native APIs—and building controllers that automate lifecycle management at scale.
This role is ideal for engineers who thrive in deep technical execution, system design, and Kubernetes extensibility, and want to build production-grade infrastructure used by enterprise customers globally.
Level & Scope Definition
- Own design and implementation of CRDs, controllers, and operator workflows
- Operate with high autonomy within a defined platform domain
- Contribute to design reviews and technical decisions within the team
- Collaborate cross-functionally with platform, storage, and product teams
- Balance hands-on coding (70–80%) with design and system thinking
Responsibilities
- Design and implement Kubernetes CRDs to model storage resources and workflows
- Build and maintain Operators/Controllers for provisioning, scaling, upgrades, and recovery
- Develop reconciliation logic to ensure desired vs actual state convergence
- Translate storage system behaviors (volume lifecycle, snapshots, replication) into declarative APIs
- Integrate with Kubernetes internals:
- Informers, controllers, work queues
- Admission webhooks and API machinery
- Develop and maintain Helm charts and deployment tooling
- Debug and resolve issues across:
- Kubernetes clusters
- Distributed systems state management
- Contribute to performance, scalability, and reliability improvements
- Use AI-assisted tools to improve:
- Debugging workflows
- Code generation and validation
- Operational efficiency in development cycles
Qualifications
Must-Have
- 6–10 years of software engineering experience
- Strong proficiency in Golang (preferred) or C++
- Hands-on experience building:
- Kubernetes controllers or operators
- CRDs and reconciliation loops
- Solid understanding of Kubernetes fundamentals:
- API server, controllers, scheduling basics
- Experience with distributed systems and stateful workloads
- Strong Linux systems knowledge (containers, networking)
Preferred
- Experience with:
- controller-runtime / Kubebuilder / Operator SDK
- Admission controllers, webhooks, finalizers
- Exposure to storage systems (NAS, NFS, SMB)
- Experience with CI/CD and GitOps (ArgoCD, Jenkins)
Ideal
- Built production-grade operator systems used at scale
- Experience modeling complex systems using declarative APIs
- Familiarity with Kubernetes control plane debugging
- Experience optimizing performance in distributed environments
Experience Guidelines
- 6–10 years total experience
- 2–5 years working with Kubernetes-based systems
- Strong hands-on coding depth required; architecture exposure is a plus
