Senior Software Engineer — Filesystem
Location: Hyderabad, India — Hybrid, 3 days onsite per week
Role Overview
Nasuni is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to help build and improve the core file system technology behind our cloud-native file data platform. This role sits within the File System team, responsible for the storage architecture, metadata services, caching, snapshots, replication, recovery, and protocol capabilities that power Nasuni’s enterprise file platform.
You will design, develop, test, debug, and operate production-grade systems software used by large enterprise customers. You will work closely with engineers across File System, Platform, Control Plane, Security, Infrastructure, and QA to improve scalability, resilience, performance, and operational simplicity.
This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy C/C++ systems programming, distributed systems, file system internals, Linux, performance engineering, and production debugging. It is not intended for engineers focused primarily on front-end development, application-only feature delivery, or high-level architecture without hands-on implementation.
Level & Scope Definition
You will own complex file system features or components from design through production. You will make technical tradeoffs, write high-quality code, participate in design reviews, resolve difficult defects, and help improve engineering practices within the team. You will influence implementation approaches and reliability improvements while partnering with more senior technical leaders on broader architecture decisions.
Responsibilities
Design and implement core file system and storage platform capabilities using C and C++.
Build and improve services related to metadata, snapshots, caching, replication, recovery, data consistency, and storage efficiency.
Contribute to NFS, SMB, S3, POSIX, or related file access and storage protocol capabilities.
Debug complex issues across distributed services, Linux environments, and Kubernetes-based infrastructure.
Improve performance, scalability, reliability, observability, and test coverage for production systems.
Partner with engineering teams to deliver secure, maintainable, and operationally efficient platform improvements.
Participate in design reviews, code reviews, incident analysis, and root-cause investigations.
Use AI-assisted engineering workflows where appropriate for code generation, debugging, test creation, log analysis, documentation, and workflow automation while maintaining accountability for correctness, security, and quality.
Mentor engineers through code review, technical guidance, and practical systems engineering practices.
Expected Outcomes & Impact
Deliver reliable file system features that support enterprise-scale workloads.
Improve performance, resiliency, debuggability, and operational efficiency across core storage components.
Reduce defects and production risk through stronger testing, observability, and root-cause discipline.
Accelerate team execution while maintaining high engineering standards.
Qualifications
Must Have
6+ years of software engineering experience, including substantial systems programming experience.
Strong C and C++ development skills in production environments.
Experience with Linux, concurrency, memory management, debugging, and performance analysis.
Experience building or operating distributed systems, storage systems, file systems, or infrastructure software.
Understanding of file system concepts such as POSIX semantics, metadata, caching, consistency, snapshots, replication, or recovery.
Experience owning complex technical work from design through production release.
Strong debugging, testing, code review, and root-cause analysis skills.
Preferred
Experience with NFS, SMB, S3, FUSE, VFS, Linux kernel interfaces, or object storage systems.
Experience with Kubernetes, cloud-native infrastructure, or containerized distributed services.
Experience with high availability, data protection, replication, or recovery workflows.
Experience with performance benchmarking, profiling, observability, and production incident analysis.
Experience mentoring engineers or leading feature-level technical design.
Ideal
Experience building enterprise-scale file systems, distributed storage platforms, or cloud file services.
Deep expertise in metadata services, file system consistency, protocol behavior, or performance-sensitive storage paths.
Experience using AI-assisted engineering workflows to improve development speed, troubleshooting, testing, or documentation.
Experience Guidelines
6–10+ years total software engineering experience.
3+ years in distributed systems, storage, infrastructure, or systems programming.
1–3+ years owning complex components, major features, or production-critical technical work.
