The Senior Manager, Investment Tax is responsible for supporting the preparation and review of federal income tax calculations related to investment activities, including book-to-tax timing differences, across diverse investment asset classes. The role plays a key part in the quarterly and annual tax provision process, requiring hands-on involvement, strong technical judgment, and close attention to detail.
This position demands a proactive and detail-oriented professional with a solid foundation in investment tax accounting and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, close-driven environment. The Senior Manager works collaboratively within the Investment Tax Accounting team, contributing to accurate tax reporting while supporting continuous learning and professional growth within a high-performing and supportive team environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and perform detailed reviews of federal income tax calculations related to investment activities, ensuring accurate reflection of timing differences arising between GAAP, STAT, and U.S. tax reporting frameworks.
- Provide end-to-end support for the quarterly and annual income tax provision process, including review, analysis, and validation of investment-related tax inputs and adjustments within close timelines.
- Prepare and review tax adjustments across a broad range of investment asset classes, including Securities, Derivatives, Partnerships (CJVs and REJVs), Real Estate (wholly owned and commercial), Leveraged Leases, and Mortgages, covering areas such as depreciation of fixed assets and investment-related tax credits.
- Support system and process transformation initiatives by assisting in the testing and validation of rebuilt workbooks for ASC 740 (141) book-to-tax adjustments, as part of the Workday implementation, to ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with tax accounting requirements.
Education
- Chartered Accountant or
- MBA from a reputed institution, preferably with a specialization related to Taxation, Finance, or Accounting
Technical Skills
- Strong technical tax and accounting expertise, with specific application to investment-related tax accounting
- Ability to prepare and review federal income tax calculations for investments, including book-to-tax timing differences
- Hands-on expertise in the quarterly and annual tax provision process for investment activities
- Technical understanding of tax adjustments across multiple investment asset classes, including securities, derivatives, partnerships, real estate, leveraged leases, and mortgages
- Knowledge of GAAP, STAT, and U.S. tax reporting differences as they relate to investments
- Experience supporting or testing tax adjustment workbooks, including book-to-tax adjustments as part of system or process changes
- Strong analytical and review skills to ensure accuracy, completeness, and control in tax calculations
Experience
- 8-10 years of experience in U.S. Taxation or International Tax, with a strong focus on investment-related tax accounting
- Prior hands-on experience supporting investment tax calculations and the quarterly and annual tax provision process
- Exposure to tax accounting for investments across relevant asset classes, with the ability to operate effectively in a close-cycle, detail-driven environment
- Prior experience with Workday is preferred
