The Role
Description
Come join a winning team! Here at Imprivata, you'll see a dedicated group of professionals who care about improving healthcare. Our team thrives on collaboration and sharing ideas, whether in a cross-functional meeting or at one of our virtual team-building events.
While we're diverse in our backgrounds and skills, we have much in common. A passion for our mission. A strong sense of integrity. A belief that we're making a positive impact and a commitment to having fun.
We are seeking a Manager, Reliability Engineeringto join our team. This is a remote opportunity based in Costa Rica.
Job Summary
The Manager of Reliability Engineering will be provide deep technical expertise and lead our Reliability Engineering team. The team is a group focused on building the systems, tooling, and infrastructure necessary to ensure the quality and reliability of every software release. This is not a traditional QA or automation role. We're looking for an engineering leader who understands software architecture and can design and implement reliable, scalable systems for testing and validation - across backend, frontend, and non-web applications. This role is responsible for shaping how we catch regressions, validate complex behavior, and reduce risk as we scale our product. This is a hands-on leadership role where you will architect test platforms, manage a team of engineers, and drive automation deeply into the SDLC, working closely with development, DevOps, and product teams.
The Privileged Access Security platform (PAS) offers a highly available and performant connectivity framework that uses SSH (secure shell) to create a connectivity platform for remote support. The appliance also offers advanced auditing capabilities and centralized management for remote access. Our product is mission-critical to our customers, and our success depends on our ability to evolve our product to satisfy new customers while improving stability and maintaining security and quality.
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Build and manage a high-caliber team of SDETs and reliability engineers; recruit, mentor, and develop strong technical talent.
  • Own the architecture and implementation of test infrastructure, services, and tooling to support fast, reliable, and scalable testing.
  • Go beyond web testing - design frameworks for validating distributed systems, data integrity, and non-browser interfaces.
  • Drive automation-first practices and deeply integrate testing into CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, GitLab CI).
  • Collaborate with engineers across the org to define strategies for shift-left testing, environment management, and production validation.
  • Instrument quality signals throughout the development lifecycle and establish clear metrics around reliability and test coverage.
  • Stay current with tools and technologies that improve testability, observability, and developer velocity.
  • Other duties as assigned and required.

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience with a dynamic background in systems, tools, or infrastructure development.
  • 2+ years in a technical leadership or managerial role with a track record of building and retaining high-performing teams.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language (e.g., Go, Python, TypeScript, Java).
  • Sound experience designing and maintaining automated testing frameworks and test platforms - not just writing test cases.
  • Experience with CI/CD systems, test environments, and integrating tests into developer workflows.
  • Comfortable with thick-client, distributed, or hybrid systems (web + native + API layers).
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to align engineering and product teams around quality goals.

Nice to have:
  • Experience in performance, fuzz, or chaos testing.
  • Knowledge of containerized environments and orchestration technologies.
  • Familiarity with system observability (metrics, logs, traces) to inform test strategies.

At Imprivata, we have a top-notch work environment, developmental opportunities, a competitive total rewards package, and the desire to have fun. If you have the skills and qualifications as we have described above, we want to hear from you!
Imprivata provides equal employment opportunities, regardless of race, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state or local laws.
