The Opportunity
The Director, U.S. Operational Risk Management Programs Lead plays a critical role in advancing Operational Risk Management capabilities across U.S. businesses. This position partners closely with the First Line of Defense, Technology, Data, Compliance, and Internal Audit teams to modernize risk management practices through innovative solutions, enhanced analytics, and AI-enabled capabilities. The role is responsible for developing next-generation risk assessment methodologies, delivering actionable risk insights, and leading strategic initiatives focused on emerging and evolving operational risks.
The successful candidate will drive transformation efforts that enable business leaders to identify, assess, monitor, and manage operational risks more effectively in a rapidly changing environment while supporting MetLife's strategic growth agenda.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive innovation across U.S. Operational Risk Management (ORM) through the development and implementation of the technology roadmap, including digital Non-Financial Risk Assessment (NFRA) enhancements, guided workflows, and AI-enabled capabilities that strengthen risk management and decision-making.
- Design, prototype, and deploy user-centric dashboards, workflow solutions, and reporting tools that provide business and functional leaders with actionable risk insights, enhanced transparency, and improved governance.
- Modernize and enhance risk assessment capabilities by leveraging automation and AI-assisted execution, analysis, and reporting to improve efficiency, consistency, and scalability.
- Identify and implement opportunities to streamline, automate, and optimize risk management processes, enabling more effective oversight and risk mitigation across the organization.
- Lead and support thematic, emerging, and strategic risk assessments across U.S. businesses, developing risk assessment frameworks and methodologies that proactively identify, evaluate, and address evolving risk exposures and key business initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in operational risk, analytics, business intelligence, consulting, digital transformation, or related disciplines.
- Proven ability to leverage emerging technologies, including AI, and utilize tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Excel, SQL, and Python to enhance risk management capabilities and generate actionable insights.
- Strong analytical and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex data into clear, compelling insights and visualizations for senior leadership.
- Demonstrated success leading or influencing strategic projects, innovation initiatives, and transformation efforts across cross-functional stakeholders.
- Deep understanding of operational risk frameworks and processes, including RCSA/NFRA, issues management, risk event analysis, root cause assessment, and controls testing, combined with excellent communication skills and the ability to simplify complex risk concepts.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (MBA, Master's, or equivalent) and experience within the financial services and/or insurance industry.
- Demonstrated expertise in AI-enabled governance, risk, and compliance solutions, as well as data visualization, automation, and risk reporting technologies.
- Proven track record leading cross-functional, enterprise-wide transformation initiatives that drive operational effectiveness and business value.
Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $128,800 - $171,700 . This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
