The Opportunity
The AVP, Business Controls - Global Business Solutions (GBS) is responsible for the development and ongoing execution of managing GBS risk and control activities globally . The AVP will oversee the measurement and monitoring of risk within Global Shared Services, Global Vendor Management & Procurement, Global Resilience, and Enterprise Change. This is an exciting opportunity to strengthen the level of risk rigor in GBS and the view of the evolving risk and control landscape.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee Global Business Solutions (GBS) risk management by partnering with business leaders to drive a strong 1st line risk culture, including identification, escalation, and mitigation of non-financial risks
- Drive 1st line of defense established best practices in risk management across Global Shared Services, Global Vendor Management & Procurement, Global Resilience, and Enterprise Change
- Serve as a risk SME, guiding execution of key risk activities (risk assessments, control reviews, testing, issue management, KPI/KRI development)
- Develop and deliver risk reporting and analytics to support governance, inform leadership, and drive transparency of risk and control impacts across the enterprise
- Lead complex, cross-functional programs and initiatives, ensuring delivery of strategic objectives and measurable outcomes
- Influence and build relationships across a matrixed organization, driving alignment, resolving issues, and enabling effective decision-making at all levels
Required Qualifications
- 10+ years of risk management experience, including 1st/2nd line of defense and third-party/vendor risk (preferably in insurance or financial services), with strength in governance and execution
- Experience leading complex, multi-faceted risk programs, including risk assessments, best practice implementation, and offshore/global delivery models
- Proven ability to operate in a global, highly matrixed environment, influencing senior stakeholders and driving outcomes
- Experience supporting executive leadership, including development of senior management reporting and strategic materials
- Strong leadership and project execution skills, with a track record of managing complex initiatives and driving accountability
- Advanced problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to translate insights into actionable recommendations
- Excellent communication skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work independently in fast-paced, agile environments
- Technical fluency, including experience with GRC tools (e.g., OpenPages) and application of AI to enhance decision-making and process efficiency
- Bachelor's/University degree or equivalent experience
- Travel to India may be required
Preferred Qualifications
- Location Related - Note that while this role is virtual, there is a strong preference for this position to be located near a local East coast MetLife office such as Cary, NC, Tampa, FL, Warwick, RI, Bridgewater, NJ, Whippany, NJ, or New York, NY.
The expected salary range for this position is $164,200 - $218,900 This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.

Skills Required
- 10+ years of experience in risk management and third-party/vendor risk management
- Prior experience supporting a VP/Executive level leader
