AI Software Intern

JOB DESCRIPTION
This is Hybrid 3 days a week on-site at the Austin, Texas office.
UL Solutions is seeking a Summer AI Engineer Intern with a strong interest in Agentic AI systems, large language models (LLMs), and intelligent automation. In this role, you will work with experienced AI and software engineers to prototype, build, and evaluate agent-based AI solutions that support complex workflows, reasoning, and orchestration across enterprise software platforms.
This internship provides hands-on exposure to real-world AI systems, including prompt engineering, tool-using agents, multi-step reasoning workflows, and integration with production software systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As an AI Engineer Intern, you will:

• Design and prototype agentic AI workflows using large language models (LLMs)
• Work with structured and unstructured data to support AI-driven decision-making
• Experiment with frameworks and patterns for agent orchestration, memory, and context management
• Evaluate model outputs using quantitative and qualitative metrics
• Document experiments, design decisions, and findings
• Participate in agile development processes, standups, and code reviews

QUALIFICATIONS

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
• Strong programming skills in Python
• Foundational knowledge of:
  • Machine learning and AI concepts
  • Data structures and algorithms
  • Software engineering fundamentals
• Familiarity with large language models (e.g., GPT-style models) and prompt-based systems
• Strong problem-solving skills and curiosity about emerging AI technologies
• Ability to communicate clearly and collaborate in a team environment
