Top Remote Software Engineer Jobs in Birmingham, AL

Lead the architecture and evolution of managed Kubernetes and cloud-native services. Provide cross-team technical oversight, standardize platform practices, integrate open-source technologies, improve scale, performance, security, and operational efficiency, and mentor engineering teams. The role requires expertise in Kubernetes-based platforms, container runtimes, cloud-native architectures, and Go, Python, or Bash.

Lead and set technical strategy for the Order Platform powering post-checkout flows (orders, captures, refunds, settlement). Design and ship highly available backend systems, own reliability/operational practices, mentor engineers, collaborate cross-functionally, and drive long-term technical decisions and execution plans.

Build and maintain the AI-powered learning platform across a TypeScript/React frontend and Python/FastAPI backend. Integrate LLMs for classification, extraction, personalization, and conversation practice. Design scalable APIs, develop real-time interactive features, apply AI-assisted development workflows, write well-tested code, and collaborate with product, design, and education teams to optimize learning experiences and A/B tests.

Define and own autonomy architecture for large-scale UAV swarms: design perception, planning, control, and inter-robot/C2 protocols; make system tradeoffs; mentor engineers; write production-quality code; support test events (up to 25% travel).

As a Software Engineer, you'll develop and deploy software for cyber defense, handle digital twin model construction, and perform site reliability operations.

Sola seeks a Software Engineer for Desktop Automation to own and enhance their execution platform, focusing on reliability and integrating with AI pipelines.

Design, build, and operate backend systems for a mortgage lending platform. Own backend responsibilities from design through production, focusing on scalability, performance, reliability, and multi-service architectures while collaborating with product and full-stack engineers.

Join an early-stage platform team to scale and mature a mortgage origination platform. Work across the stack to improve distributed systems, performance, observability, and infrastructure tooling, and help define engineering standards and frameworks for growth.

Build and scale the platform infrastructure to support mortgage origination: design cloud architecture, deploy and operate Kubernetes-based systems, manage databases, implement observability and incident response, and create internal developer tooling to improve reliability and engineering velocity.

Build and maintain full-stack features on a product-oriented team, owning product areas end-to-end. Ship customer-facing functionality, design and optimize data models and schemas, work with React state management, relational databases, cloud services, event streaming, caching, and AI tools. Collaborate cross-functionally, take high ownership, and occasionally support mission-critical work outside normal hours.

As a Full-Stack Software Engineer, you'll build user-facing features, optimize GraphQL backend, and develop scalable systems, contributing significantly to the company's growth.

Build and maintain the core backend product: design and implement features, take ownership of end-to-end outcomes, iterate and fix bugs without a QA team, collaborate with product on scoping, and contribute to company culture and hiring.

Seeking a Software Engineer with 3+ years experience in software development, programming (Go, Java, C++, C#), and strong analytical skills.

Build and maintain cross-platform Electron desktop apps focused on reliability, performance, and real-time behavior. Implement desktop features (file access, notifications, auto-updates), integrate AI via backend APIs, optimize startup/memory, profile Electron overhead, manage large local state and message history, and ensure stability on macOS and Windows.

Build and ship end-to-end features across a TypeScript/Next.js monolith: dashboard, marketing site, billing, email, and AI-assisted tools. Own data models, APIs, third-party integrations, testing, observability, and production quality. Collaborate with the founder, review code, and improve engineering practices while delivering customer-facing features rapidly.

Lead architecture and hands-on development of the end-to-end video pipeline (live ingest, transcoding, storage, playback, and developer SDKs). Mentor engineers, collaborate across mobile/web/ML/platform teams, own monitoring and on-call support, and help scale video streaming and VoD capabilities for millions of streams and clips.

Build and maintain Plane's local-first browser client surfaces: large, virtualized workspaces, collaborative editor, offline/caching layers, and shared design-system components. Work cross-functionally with designers and backend engineers, extend sync and conflict-resolution behavior, optimize rendering performance, and triage cross-browser and self-hosted issues.

Build and own backend surfaces for Plane: APIs, data models, migrations, real-time sync (CDC/event streams), caching, and query performance. Instrument, monitor, and debug production incidents; collaborate with product and frontend teams across locations.

Own and build Node.js/TypeScript backend services that power integrations, importers, queues, and developer-facing OAuth surfaces. Design reliable queue/worker systems (retries, idempotency, backpressure), integrate third-party APIs, collaborate with Django engineers, and repair partial failures to ensure safe, auditable data migrations and integrations.

Lead end-to-end delivery of full-stack product and platform initiatives. Design and implement scalable frontend and backend systems, own production reliability and incidents, introduce pragmatic engineering practices, mentor engineers, and drive architecture and tooling decisions to balance speed and long-term maintainability.
