The Opportunity
The Software Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and supporting secure, enterprise-grade web and backend solutions that enable MetLife's digital platforms across the United States. Guided by our purpose - always with you, building a more confident future - and our New Frontier strategy focused on stronger growth, attractive returns, and all-weather performance, this is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the modernization of both legacy and cloud-based applications that serve millions of customers.
In this role, you will build high-quality software using Java and modern front-end frameworks, leverage generative AI and DevSecOps practices to improve development efficiency and security, and collaborate within agile, cross-functional teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and support enterprise-caliber web and backend solutions using Java, Angular, and ReactJS within modern, cloud-based applications.
  • Create and enhance major application features and components, ensuring code quality, performance, and security standards are met.
  • Implement and modernize Java-based solutions on legacy platforms, identifying opportunities for platform and architecture improvements.
  • Ensure secure, reliable software delivery through the use of DevSecOps best practices and the application of generative AI where appropriate.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and cross-functional agile teams, actively participating in ceremonies while supporting production incidents and service requests.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • 4+ years of experience in application design, coding, testing, and troubleshooting, with 3+ years developing applications in Java.
  • 2+ years of experience developing applications using a modern JavaScript framework, like Angular, and ReactJS.
  • 2+ years of experience developing RESTful APIs.
  • 1+ years of experience with DevOps practices.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of experience with Cloud native applications deployed to Azure, AWS or Google Cloud, (CI/CD, release management, automation) using Azure DevOps, experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
  • 2+ years of experience with Git-based repositories (GitHub, Bitbucket, Azure Repos).
  • 1+ years of experience in Microsoft Azure tools and modern AI concepts (generative AI, machine learning, large language models, conversational AI).

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.
The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000. This role may also be eligible for annual short-term incentive compensation and stock-based long-term incentives. All incentives and benefits are subject to the applicable plan terms.
