What is the key purpose of the role?

Reporting into the VP of APAC, the Regional Publisher Director will lead through influence, guiding a team of Publisher Account Directors, Publisher Sales Directors, Publisher Account Managers, and Publisher Sellers across APAC. You’ll manage both commercial operations (new business acquisition, renewals, and margin improvement) and align global strategies with regional needs. You’ll work closely with Country Managers and Regional Directors to ensure local market dynamics are accounted for and successfully execute go-to-market (GTM) initiatives.

What are my key responsibilities?1. Commercial Leadership:

  • Business Development & Growth:
    • Drive the acquisition of new publishers across the region, with an emphasis on exTAC & advertiser success.
    • Oversee publisher renewals and growth within the existing publisher base with an emphasis on driving product adoption and managing exTAC.
    • Manage the region’s exTAC and margin via ongoing commercial initiatives and contractual best practices.
  • Sales Leadership:
    • Guide the team in building strong, strategic relationships with publishers across commercial, product, editorial, and C-suite personas.
    • Support complex negotiations and ensure terms align with Taboola’s business objectives.
    • Monitor sales and account management performance against targets, making tactical adjustments where necessary.
    • Partner with finance and regional leadership to forecast revenue.
  • Product Adoption:
    • Partner with the Audience Development Team to drive stickiness with key publishers via Taboola’s Audience Solution.
    • Drive global strategic initiatives such as Header Bidding and other product initiatives (e.g., Audience/HB).

2. Strategic Leadership:

  • Global Strategy Deployment:
    • Act as the key regional driver for Taboola’s global strategies, ensuring they are executed effectively at the local level.
    • Tailor global initiatives to meet the specific needs, trends, and opportunities in the region while maintaining alignment with Taboola’s overall goals.
  • Go-to-Market (GTM) Execution:
    • Work closely with central teams to adapt GTM strategies for the region.
    • Lead cross-functional efforts with product marketing, product, and other teams to successfully implement new initiatives.
    • Ensure local nuances and market-specific dynamics are incorporated into broader GTM strategies.

3. Cross-functional & Matrixed Collaboration:

  • Partnership with Country Manager:
    • Collaborate closely with in-market Country Managers and Regional Directors to ensure alignment between publisher and broader market strategies.
    • Maintain transparency and clear communication to ensure coordinated execution without overlap.
    • Delegate external-facing commercial activities to regional leaders when prudent, such as negotiations (language differences, pre-existing relationships, etc.).
  • Internal Alignment:
    • Partner with product, legal, marketing, and operations teams to ensure publishers’ needs are understood and addressed in a timely manner.
    • Advocate for the region’s needs within the global organization, ensuring that the region receives adequate support and focus.

4. Team Leadership & Development:

  • Team leadership:
    • Leading through influence, mentor, and develop the Publisher team across the region, ensuring they are equipped to meet commercial targets and operational goals.
    • Support Country Managers and Regional Directors to foster a collaborative and high-performance publisher department across APAC.
  • Talent Development:
    • Support Country Managers to identify and develop high-potential team members, and to provide opportunities for career growth and advancement.
    • Ensure the team is continuously developing the skills necessary to respond to a rapidly evolving ad tech landscape.
  • Operational Efficiency:
    • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline publisher account management, sales processes, and reporting.
    • Drive operational excellence, ensuring the team is maximizing productivity and adhering to best practices.

What are my success metrics?

  • Achievement of regional exTAC revenue and margin targets.
  • Successful acquisition of new publisher partners and retention/growth of existing accounts in alignment with global strategy.
  • Product adoption, particularly in strategic areas such as Header Bidding and the Audience Solution.
  • Effective deployment of global strategies with measurable impact on regional performance.
  • Strong collaboration and alignment with the Country Manager, ensuring clarity of roles.
  • High employee engagement, retention, and development within the Publisher Account Management and Sales teams.

What skills and experience do I need?

  • Strategic Vision & Execution: Ability to develop and execute strategic plans that align with global initiatives while addressing regional market needs.
  • Commercial Acumen: Strong understanding of the ad tech and publishing landscape, with a proven track record of driving revenue growth and optimizing margins via product adoption and effective deal-making.
  • Leadership & Influence: Ability to lead cross-functional teams in a matrixed environment, with strong collaboration and influencing skills.
  • Relationship Management: Proven experience in building and maintaining relationships with high-level stakeholders, both internally and externally.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to navigate the complexities of a matrixed organization, adjusting strategies and approaches based on market dynamics.
