Global Logistics Operations - Customs & Compliance Manager

Job Description:

Applies advanced Customs Operations and Compliance knowledge to solve complex business issues and is regarded as a subject matter expert. Frequently contributes to the development of new ideas and methods. Works on complex problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of multiple factors. Leads and/or provides expertise to functional project teams and may participate in cross-functional initiatives. Acts as an expert providing direction and guidance to process improvements and establishing policies. Frequently represents the organization to external customers/clients. Exercises significant independent judgment to determine best method for accomplishing work and achieving objectives. May provide mentoring and guidance to lower level employees.

Responsibilities:

• Customs & Brokerage Operations: Own and manage end-to-end customs broker operations across Vietnam, ensuring seamless, legally compliant clearance for all imports and exports. Performance & KPI Management, Reporting
• Compliance & Auditing: Monitor, review, and execute all regulatory activities, leading internal and external audits to maintain fully compliant and zero-penalty operations.
• Broker Governance: Lead broker performance management reviews, establish strict performance metrics (KPIs), and enforce regional vendor governance.
• Financial Oversight & Optimization: Proactively audit and resolve import duty/tax, or customs invoice discrepancies while leading strategic revenue optimization initiatives.
• Program & License Management: Secure and maintain critical import/export licenses, and lead local Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) certification initiatives.
• Systems: Proficiency with automated customs clearance platforms (e.g., VNACCS/VCIS) and global ERP systems (e.g., SAP) is highly preferred.
• Technical Knowledge: Advanced, up-to-date knowledge of Vietnam Customs regulations, tariff classifications (HS Codes), valuation rules, and Free Trade Agreements (FTAs).
• Advanced Problem Solving & SME Guidance: Apply advanced, deep-dive subject matter knowledge to investigate and resolve highly complex global trade and business issues.
• Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Proactively design, propose, and contribute to the development of new compliance ideas, methods, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as a primary consultant to regional teams, overseeing complex customs compliance processes and managing system-wide User Acceptance Testing (UAT).

Education and Experience Required:

• First level university degree or equivalent experience; advanced university degree preferred.
• Typically 6-15 years of experience in a Customs Operations and Compliance function.
• Broker's license and/or additional experience in a logistics/global trade function though not mandatory.

Knowledge and Skills:

• Excellent understanding of Customs Operations and Compliance Operations, Logistics and supply chain processes ( Core focus on Customs Operations and Compliance).
• Excellent communication and influencing skills; mastery in English and local language.
• Highly self-driven, innovative, analytical, and comfortable working within a high-stakes, regional matrix environment.
• Excellent internal and external relationship management skills.
• Extensive knowledge and understanding of how to analyze business problems using Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
• Capability to work in cross functional/regional teams in multiple geographies.
• Strong business acumen and technical knowledge within area of responsibility.
• Excellent understanding of national and international trade requirements to align customs/trade function with business objectives.
• Strong skills including team-building and relationship management.
• Excellent understanding in developing and managing a trade compliance program.
