3D printing has come a long way since its inception. The technology is no longer a mere hobby; it’s now used commercially across industries like manufacturing and construction. Even the U.K. government sees its potential. According to a Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy report, manufacturers have the opportunity to work with third parties to create missing components for various consumer appliances. Here are some of the country’s top 3D printing companies to know.

Top 3D Printing Companies in the UK

REM3DY Health Group is the supplement company behind the Nourished brand that developed 3D-printed vitamin gummies. Through its process, customers can create vitamin supplements that are made using a food-safe 3D printer.

 

Geomiq offers an AI-enabled online platform that provides engineers with access to 3D printing services. Its network includes more than 1,000 vetted printing and manufacturing suppliers and allows customers to receive parts quickly. Geomiq is based in London with an additional location in Portugal.

 

Skyrora specializes in the design and manufacturing of rocket launch vehicles. It uses 3D technology to build rockets, small satellites and portable launch systems. In 2021, Skyrora built Europe’s largest hybrid 3D printer to manufacture rocket engine parts. The company is based in Glasgow, Scotland with an additional manufacturing facility in Cumbernauld.

 

Healthtech company 4D Biomaterials is developing a new resorbable biomaterial that will allow implantable medical devices to degrade safely and avoid requiring surgical removal. Its patented 4Degra is a biodegradable and biocompatible resin that allows implanted medical devices to be 3D printed into meshes, stents, pins, screws, plates and scaffolds. 4D Biomaterials is headquartered in Nottingham.

 

PERI provides construction equipment like scaffolding, panel products, formwork and construction accessories. It also provides 3D printed construction materials, and built Germany’s first fully 3D printed house. PERI is based in Germany and maintains five offices across the UK.

 

Nexa3D makes ultra-fast 3D printers that print at speeds of up to 24 cm per hour on the Z-axis. It also provides polymers and other 3D printing materials, including Xyon, its new cost-effective polymer for desktop and industrial printing. In 2019, Nexa3D announced an agreement to make Creat3D its UK sales and service partner.

 

Software company AMFG develops manufacturing execution and workflow software for 3D printing manufacturing. It has customers in 25 countries, including companies like Volvo, HP and ArcelorMittal. AMFG is based in the United States, with additional offices in London, UK, Germany and Bulgaria.

 

Renishaw designs and manufactures additive manufacturing equipment that prints industrial parts from metal powder. Its machines are designed for precision manufacturing for use in the transportation, agriculture, electronics and healthcare industries. Renishaw has over 5,000 employees in 36 countries, including nearly 3,000 in the UK.

 

French manufacturing company Saint-Gobain designs, produces and sells manufacturing and industrial materials. It specializes in 3D concrete printing, and its Weber Mobile Setup is a complete concrete 3D printing set-up that can be shipped worldwide. Saint-Gobain employs 33,000 people, including more than 5,000 in the UK and Ireland.

 

Axial3D is a 3D printing company working in the healthcare space. The company aims to make patient-specific 3D solutions readily available and, as such, partners with hospital and medical device manufacturers. Its platform transforms patient data into 3D visualizations and printable mesh files.

Stratasys offers a host of 3D printing products and solutions, including industrial printers, 3D printing software, on-demand parts and application-based expert services. In 2023, it opened a new logistics facility in Oxfordshire, part of the American-Israeli company’s plan to expand its presence in the UK market. Stratasys employs 2,000 people.

 

London-based startup Gravity Sketch offers a 3D design and collaboration tool for engineers and artists. Its platform operates both on screen and in virtual reality, allowing teams to precision design their products — from sneakers to furniture — before 3D printing their prototypes. Gravity Sketch was founded in 2014.

 

Materialise has been providing 3D printing services for more than 30 years. Its printers and services are used by healthcare, architecture, consumer goods, aerospace and automotive companies. Materialise’s UK team, based in the Southampton Science Park, works with the NHS and private hospitals to develop 3D printed medical device solutions.

 

Robotics company Open Bionics makes prosthetics for the human body. Its Hero Arm is a 3D printed bionic limb created specifically for each user and available for people as young as 8 years old. Open Bionics is based in Bristol.

 

Co Print develops 3D printing systems and accessories. The Chromapad, its top-of-the-line printer, supports multicolor printing and can work in unison with up to eight other printers for large-scale prints. Meanwhile, some of its accessories include turbocharged printing heads and extruders that work across printing systems.

AI-enabled drug discovery company CHARM Therapeutics developed a proprietary technology called DragonFold that uses deep learning to understand how protein molecules bind together and 3D imaging and printing to research and develop new drugs that will target specific proteins found in hard-to-treat diseases. Founded in 2022, CHARM Therapeutics is based in London.

 

AI Build develops AI software to optimize 3D printing. The AiSync platform automates printing projects, provides visual simulation to ensure projects are completed without errors and also provides fleet controls to manage multiple 3D printers. According to the company, the software provides a wide range of solutions for industrial 3D printers.

 

HEXR makes 3D printed, custom-fitted bike helmets. Each helmet is unique, made to the particular dimensions and curvature of a customer’s head. The custom-made helmets are 3D printed on demand and have higher safety ratings than most mass-produced options. HEXR’s headquarters is in Strand-On-the-Green, England.

 

Wayland Additive develops electron beam 3D printers. This technology uses powdered metal and magnetic fields to manufacture industrail products. According to Wayland Additive, its machines are for industrial end users in the aerospace and medical industries.
