Tax Accounting Analyst

About the role:

We're hiring a Tax Accounting Analyst to join our growing Accounting team. Reporting to the Tax Manager, you'll play a direct role in keeping 8am compliant across sales tax, local tax, and payroll tax, working closely with our Payroll and AP teams and liaising directly with U.S. federal, state, and local tax authorities. What you'll do:

• Process tax notices and maintain accurate records in our internal tracking system • Proactively communicate with federal, state, and local tax authorities by phone • Monitor the Tax inbox and ensure tax inquiries are resolved on time 
• Calculate and process quarterly estimated and extension tax payments, and manage the tax compliance calendar to stay ahead of deadlines 
• Prepare and file personal property tax returns and assist with California environmental fee workpapers  
• Review sales tax returns monthly, reconcile the sales tax payable account, and upload AP reports with sales tax to Avalara for use tax compliance
• Partner with the Payroll team on payroll tax registrations and with the AP team to ensure tax payments are booked correctly 
• Use AI tools to automate tax notice processing, research, and documentation, and to optimize tracking of compliance deadlines

About you:

• 2+ years of experience in a tax or accounting role 
• Bachelor's degree in tax, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent experience; CPA or local equivalent certification preferred 
• High degree of accuracy and attention to detail, with strong written and verbal communication skills across functions 
• Experience in a client-facing support role, driving adoption and compliance 
• Fluent English communication skills, written and verbal, to liaise with U.S. federal, state, and local tax authorities 
• Availability to work hours overlapping with U.S. business hours for real-time collaboration with the tax team 
• Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools like Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini to automate or optimize workflows 
• Experience working within a multi-entity or multi-state tax environment is a plus
• Demonstrated experience leveraging AI tools and technologies to improve workflows, enhance decision-making, or drive innovation.
