Opportunity Overview

We are seeking an exceptional Lead Product Designer to join our stellar design team. The ideal candidate for this role is an experienced digital product designer who excels in highly collaborative environments, is proficient in modern design tools (we’re a Figma-first organization), and consistently delivers high-quality experiences in complex problem spaces. You enjoy taking ownership of ambiguous and challenging problems, shaping them into thoughtful and intuitive experiences that make a meaningful difference for users.

As a senior member of our design team, and a founding member of the India design team, you will set a strong foundation for integrating design practices with our engineering team. Your work will have a direct impact on over 700,000 healthcare professionals who use our solutions daily to process more than 12 million prior authorisations annually. You combine deep UX expertise with strong visual craft, applying research insights, interaction patterns, and strategic storytelling to influence decisions and ship value. You know how to navigate constraints, advocate for the user, and collaborate seamlessly with product and engineering from discovery through delivery.

In this role, you will also be a force multiplier for the entire product organization. You will design, maintain, and evolve our design system, ensuring it enhances the efficiency, consistency, quality, and accessibility of experiences across multiple product surfaces. Your work will empower designers, engineers, and product teams to ship value faster and more confidently, reducing friction and enhancing collaboration. You bring strong knowledge of interaction patterns, visual design principles, accessibility standards, and component architecture. You know when to extend the system and when to keep it lean, and you are comfortable negotiating with engineers to maintain design and technical cohesion. 

To summarize, this is a hybrid role split between leading and supporting product design across all our products and evolving our design system and design operations globally.

What you will do 

  • Lead end-to-end design for complex product areas—from framing problems through polished delivery and iteration
  • Define experience principles, flows, and interaction patterns that provide clarity across cross-functional teams
  • Build high-fidelity prototypes to communicate concepts, test usability, and validate solutions
  • Craft beautiful, emotionally compelling visual designs that reinforce product strategy and brand expression
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, data teams, and operations to shape the roadmap and deliver measurable impact
  • Own and evolve the design system—tokens, components, patterns, documentation, and guardrails—across all Cohere products
  • Uses AI to connect Figma designs with front-end code and generates rapid prototypes to validate design concepts
  • Refine existing components and design new systematic elements that scale across complex workflows, product areas, and user needs
  • Partner closely with designers and engineers to ensure components are technically feasible, accessible, resilient, and high-quality
  • Participate in and contribute to design critiques—both giving and receiving feedback that raises quality across the team

Must-haves

  • 5+ years of experience in software product design, with ownership of end-to-end delivery for multiple products or substantial product areas, with at least part of that time spent working on or heavily with a design system
  • Proven ability to operate in complex domains—enterprise, healthcare, fintech, analytics, or similarly data-dense problem spaces
  • Familiarity with frontend technologies (Google’s Material Design, React, HTML/CSS, Design Tokens standards) to collaborate effectively with engineers
  • Deep expertise in UX best practices, interaction design, and visual design craft
  • Experience working with cross-functional agile scrum teams
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Design, HCI, Human Factors, or equivalent experience
  • An outstanding portfolio demonstrating clear problem framing, user-centered design processes, design systems work (components, tokens, patterns), and the real impact of your work
  • Strong storytelling and communication skills—able to articulate decisions and generate alignment across disciplines and seniority
  • Strong conceptual thinking—balancing user needs, product strategy, business goals, and technical constraints
  • Uses AI tools like Claude Code to accelerate design research, prototyping, and generation. Continuously adopts emerging capabilities to improve team velocity.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience designing for healthcare
  • Experience in influencing design system adoption with engineering teams
  • Experience with tooling that supports system delivery (Storybook, ZeroHeight, Tokens Studio, DesignDocs, etc.)
  • Strength in motion design or micro-interactions
  • Experience launching v1 products or building 0→1 experiences

Ability to commute/relocate:
