Introduction to the Team:
The Identity Profile team is part of EG Identity and owns the profile data for every user across Expedia Group brands. We build and run the services behind the Universal Profile, including profile storage and APIs, the profile business events consumed across EG, and the integration paths into sign-in and checkout.
We are a hands-on, AI-forward team: engineers use agentic tools for development, triage, and documentation, with a strong emphasis on review quality and clear specs.
As a software engineer you will own critical, high-scale services. You will be a technical owner for multiple critical services which are in business critical. Reliability and latency here directly affect sign-in and booking for all EG brands. Lead design and delivery end to end. You will take ambiguous problems from design doc to production rollout, working with PMs, TPMs, and partner engineering teams. Raise the engineering bar. Strengthen operational excellence. You will improve alerting, runbooks, and incident learnings, and take part in on-call.
In this role, you will:
- Lead design and implement products and solutions that are highly scalable with high-quality, clean, maintainable, and well-documented code.
- Find opportunities for process and technology improvements, and work towards adoption and implementation.
- Assist with supporting Production systems (includes investigating issues and working towards resolution)
- Exercise creativity and provide alternative solutions to a given problem removing roadblocks and driving issues to closure
- Create/update documentation for the purpose of sharing knowledge between team members
- Actively participate in group technology reviews to critique the work of self and others
- Participate and formulate user story creation in partnership with the team, product managers.
- Closely collaborate with Senior and Principal Developers, as well as the Product Manager, to find effective solutions to problems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or Master’s in a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience
- 5+ years of software development experience with a Bachelor's degree or 3+ years with a Master’s degree
- Experience in an object-oriented language (e.g., Java, Kotlin) and designing, REST/grpc/graphql APIs/MCP servers.
- Ability to design and build moderately complex, well-defined software systems
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cloud-computing platforms (e.g., Amazon Web Services)
- Experience with managing tier-0/tier-1 applications
- Experience with both relational and non-relational data stores
- Understanding of CI/CD methodologies, source control with Git, and monitoring/logging tools (e.g., Splunk, Datadog)
- Experience working in an agile team environment, conducting peer reviews, and mentoring junior engineers
- Experience maintaining projects in production environments, including bug fixing and troubleshooting
