Software Development Engineer II

The Loyalty Experience organisation plays a pivotal role in shaping how millions of travellers engage with rewards across the entire shopping journey. We are a highly dynamic group that collaborates closely across time zones and product surfaces, including homepage, Shopping,  pillar pages, checkout, and post booking experiences. Engineers in our team rotate across different pods every quarter, giving them the opportunity to work on varied problem spaces, collaborate with diverse stakeholders, and continuously grow their technical and product expertise.  

As a Software Development Engineer II, you will deliver high-impact customer experiences by building and optimising features across our Web UI surfaces, with a primary focus on React and TypeScript. While the role is frontend focused, you’ll also have opportunities to extend into backend development using Kotlin when feature work requires it, making fullstack experience a strong advantage. You’ll design clean, modular, maintainable code; contribute to technical discussions; and collaborate closely with product managers, program managers, and engineers across platforms. In this role, you will: 

• Design, build, and maintain user-facing web applications with a focus on usability, performance, and cross-browser compatibility. 

• Implement frontend features using modern JavaScript frameworks and libraries, collaborating closely with backend engineers to define clear APIs and data contracts. 

• Contribute to low-level design for UI components, client-side data models, and integration patterns with RESTful or GraphQL APIs. 

• Write well-tested, maintainable, and accessible UI code, participating in code reviews to uphold engineering standards and improve code quality. 

• Monitor, debug, and optimize frontend services in production, using metrics and logs to improve reliability, performance, and customer experience. 

• Safely integrate and operate AI enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI oncepts to real world products. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience. 

• 2+ years of relevant professional experience. 

• Experience in professional software development focused on frontend or full-stack web applications. 

• Experience owning features or services within a broader product area, including implementation, testing, and support in production. 

• Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS, and working with modern frontend frameworks, APIs, and data modeling for client-side state. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Experience building and evolving reusable UI component libraries and design systems that serve multiple products or domains. 

• Experience designing client-side data models, integrating with complex APIs, and contributing to low-level design for end-to-end user flows. 

• Experience improving performance and reliability of customer-facing web applications at scale, using experimentation and data to guide decisions. 

• Experience contributing to operational excellence for frontend services, including monitoring strategies, on-call participation, and incident analysis. 

• Experience collaborating with applied AI teams or platforms to design and refine AI-assisted user experiences, such as personalized interfaces or intelligent UI features, and familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI concepts to real world products.
