About the job
Build the simulator that helps engineers understand and optimise collective communication at AI scale.
As a Senior Software Engineer in the Collectives Simulator team, you will design and develop a large-scale simulator for new AI hardware. Your work will help engineers analyse network parameters and develop communication algorithms for high bandwidth and low latency.
You will lead development across design, implementation, testing and documentation. You will also work with other engineering teams to develop features, troubleshoot complex issues and integrate new hardware with the wider AI ecosystem.
The role combines large-scale software engineering with custom hardware and communication systems. You will shape technical direction, mentor junior engineers and help build the software that enables efficient communication at very high scale.
The team and culture
We value face-to-face interaction and make time to meet in the office frequently. The team works in two-week sprints, with three stand-ups each week, fortnightly sprint planning and a weekly team meeting.
Work is planned with input from the Technical Product Manager, covering both longer-term priorities and upcoming sprints. Engineers typically work in small groups on larger tasks or components, coordinating the work among themselves.
The team has a high level of technical expertise, with opportunities to attend thematic conferences and team outings roughly once a quarter.
What we're looking for
- Extensive professional software development experience using C++
- Strong Python and C programming skills
- Experience developing efficient concurrent applications using multithreading and inter-process communication
- Strong debugging and problem-solving skills for complex software systems
- Experience with unit testing frameworks such as Boost.Test or Google Test
- Proficiency with software build systems such as CMake, Make or Ninja

Skills Required
- Extensive experience in software development using C++ programming language
- Experience with Python and C programming
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to debug and resolve complex issues
- Strong knowledge of multithreading and inter-process communication (IPC) techniques
- Experience with unit testing frameworks such as Boost.Test and Google Test
- Proficiency with build tools such as CMake, Make and Ninja
- Strong understanding of version control systems (preferred Git)
- Ability to work within a multinational team and with multinational customers
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience in development of SW simulators
- Experience with RDMA networking libraries (for example libibverbs, libfabric)
- Knowledge of multithreading and parallel computing concepts, including experience with parallel algorithms and optimization for AI/ML and HPC systems
- Experience with Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines (for example GitHub Actions, GitLab CI)
- Experience with communication libraries (for example NCCL, MPI)
- Knowledge of machine learning frameworks (for example PyTorch)
- Knowledge of modern C++ standards 17/20
