The Role
Leads battery and ESS fire testing projects, including UL 9540A, large-scale fire, fire propagation, thermal runaway, gas analysis, and deflagration assessments. Develops test plans, evaluates compliance with fire and safety standards, analyzes hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methane, and other gases, reviews customer designs, prepares technical reports, and manages client communications. Coordinates laboratory staff, develops specialized test methods and equipment, supports project administration, and provides technical direction and training.

- Independently determines project scope, develops a preliminary plan of investigation, and determines project specifications such as cost, time, and sample requirements by analyzing client input, available supplemental data, and product construction.
- Projects may include frequent travel to conduct or witness tests at client sites. Initiates communication with clients to promote and explain the benefits of new and existing services.
- Follows up on contacts from clients.
- Communicates with clients to discuss technical issues, explain UL procedures and requirements, convey project cost, and negotiate completion date and sample requirements.
- Acts to address client concerns and to resolve complex client issues.
- Provides technical assistance to clients in reference to product inspection and follow-up services.
- Establishes appropriate test programs by reviewing files and manufacturer's information, examining samples, and applying UL requirements.
- Determines areas in which the product is not in compliance with UL requirements or of any changes in project scope or specifications and notifies client.
- Coordinates complex laboratory activities by preparing data sheets and instructions to technicians and by establishing completion dates.
- Coordinates administrative aspects of project management.
- Serves as Project Handler of record and signs as Reviewer of record as assigned.
- Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports.
- Prepares Follow-Up Service Procedures and information pages.
- Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
- Resolves complex engineering issues associated with Variation Notices by analyzing and reporting on the acceptability of the variations.
- Develops UL requirements for testing products beyond the scope of existing standards, or those involving unique features requiring frequent use of independent judgment.
- Develops special test methods and test equipment.
- Coordinates and/or performs File Reviews.
- May represent UL on technical committees and/or industry-related functions such as seminars and trade shows.
- May provide direction as a Primary Designated Engineer or Designated Engineer for specific product categories.
- Directs and reviews work of assigned staff.
- Trains office, field, and/or laboratory staff and entry level engineers.
- Provides technical assistance in several product categories, operations or systems to laboratory and/or field staff.
- Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
- Performs other duties as directed.

- Hydrogen (H₂), Carbon Monoxide (CO), Methane (CH₄) 등 주요 가스 농도 평가
- 폭발 위험성 평가
- Deflagration 및 Explosion Hazard Assessment 수행
- 시험 중 발생 가스 데이터 분석 및 보고서 작성
- 배터리 제조사 및 ESS 제조사 기술 미팅

경력
- 관련 분야 경력 5년 이상
- ESS, Battery, Fire Safety, Certification, Product Safety 분야 실무 경험 보유
- 국내외 고객 대상 기술 지원 및 프로젝트 수행 경험 보유

Skills Required
- At least 5 years of relevant experience
- Practical experience in ESS, batteries, fire safety, certification, or product safety
- Experience providing technical support to domestic and international customers and executing customer projects
- Ability to write technical documents in English and communicate with customers
- Experience with ESS or lithium-ion battery-related work
- Understanding of battery pack, module, and cell structures and characteristics
- Understanding of thermal runaway and battery safety
- Experience executing ESS fire or battery safety projects
- Experience with fire testing or fire safety assessments
- Basic knowledge of fire dynamics and fire behavior
- Experience conducting fire risk assessments
- Experience reviewing domestic and international fire-related codes and standards
- Experience operating at least one gas analysis system: FTIR, FID, GC-MS, or Gas Sampling System
- Experience analyzing thermal runaway gases
- Experience measuring hydrogen, carbon monoxide, methane, or other flammable gases
- Experience conducting explosion risk assessments using LFL/UFL
- Experience with ventilation or deflagration assessments
- Experience independently managing customer projects
