JOB DESCRIPTION
  • Builds and/or adapts unique setup and test equipment for complex tests using independent judgment.
  • Applies working knowledge of applicable test requirements and performs tests using general laboratory equipment.
  • Performs routine care of designated test equipment and work area.
  • Operates a computer to extract/input readily available information and to use available software.
  • Examines test samples, reads measuring instruments and reviews test data with supervisor.
  • Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and operational instructions.
  • Determines need for and seeks consultation from engineers or laboratory technicians.
  • Analyzes test results.
  • Operates designated laboratory equipment and tools as directed.
  • Receives instructions from and reports data to supervisor and personnel in engineering and laboratory operations as needed.
  • Prepares data sheets and records observed or calculated test results.
  • Assembles test data for appropriate distribution.
  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
  • Read and follow the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and follow all physical and digital security practices.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare samples, solutions and materials according to work instruction and procedures
  • Perform assigned tests, measurements, or observations under appropriate supervision and within the authorised scope of work
  • Monitor ongoing work and promptly report unusual results, damaged samples, deviations, or other concerns
  • Assist in set up, clean, check, and store laboratory instruments, glassware, tools
  • Carry out basic equipment checks and routine maintenance as instructed, and maintain the relevant logs.
  • Report equipment faults, overdue calibration, damage, or unsafe conditions to the supervisor without delay.
  • Follow laboratory safety rules, standard operating procedures, risk controls, and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Handle chemicals, specimens, and hazardous materials safely and refer to applicable safety information before use.
  • Maintain laboratory worksheets, logbooks, and other controlled records so that work remains traceable
  • Assist with audits, corrective actions, proficiency activities, or document preparation when assigned
  • Support filing, data entry, and other routine administrative work
  • Coordinate with colleagues to support an efficient laboratory workflow and meet agreed priorities
  • Communicate sample, equipment, and scheduling issues clearly and in a timely manner
  • Participate in training, competency assessments, safety activities, and process-improvement initiatives
  • Perform other reasonable laboratory-support duties assigned by the supervisor, consistent with training and competence

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Degree or Higher diploma in Science plus one to two years related experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative and creative
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook and Excel
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively
