Role Overview:
We are seeking a hands on Dev Lead Full-Stack Cloud Engineering to lead the design, development, and delivery of New York Life's cloud-native technology modernization initiatives. This role is both highly technical and leadership focused, you will guide engineering teams in building scalable, secure, and high-performing web applications using modern AWS cloud services and frontend technologies. As part of Technology, you'll contribute to New York Life's ongoing digital transformation by partnering closely with architects, developers, QA engineers, product owners, and business stakeholders to deliver enterprise-grade solutions. You will foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement while driving modern development practices, cloud adoption, DevOps maturity, and operational stability.
What You'll Do:
• Lead architecture and design for AWS-based distributed systems supporting New York Life's technology modernization initiatives.
• Guide implementation across backend services (AWS Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, S3, Route53, EC2, ECR) and frontend applications (React, TypeScript, Vite).
• Drive engineering best practices including code reviews, coding standards, CI/CD implementation, and DevOps maturity.
• Collaborate closely with developers, QA engineers, architects, infrastructure teams, and business stakeholders to deliver scalable and reliable solutions.
• Establish and optimize GitHub-based development workflows, Docker containerization, deployment pipelines, and cloud-native operational practices.
• Mentor and lead development teams while fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and continuous improvement.

You will bring strong technical leadership, problem-solving, and collaboration skills, along with deep expertise in cloud-native application development and modern engineering practices. You are comfortable guiding engineering teams through complex technical challenges while driving scalable and secure solution delivery. You communicate effectively with both technology and business stakeholders, ensuring alignment across architecture, development, quality engineering, and operational support teams. You stay adaptable and continuously explore emerging technologies, modern cloud services, and engineering best practices to strengthen delivery capabilities and improve application performance, reliability, and developer productivity.
Required Skills:
• Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering with at least 5+ years leading cloud-native application development initiatives.
• Strong expertise in AWS services including Lambda, DynamoDB, API Gateway, S3, Route53, EC2, ECR, and IAM.
• Hands-on experience with React, TypeScript, Vite, Docker, GitHub Actions, and CI/CD implementation.
• Experience designing scalable distributed systems and implementing modern DevOps and engineering best practices.
• Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Skills:
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform.
• Experience working within enterprise cloud transformation or modernization programs.
• Exposure to observability, monitoring, and operational excellence practices.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality solutions within tight tim
Pay Transparency
Salary Range: $124,000-$177,000
Overtime eligible: Exempt
Discretionary bonus eligible: Yes
Sales bonus eligible: No
Actual base salary will be determined based on several factors but not limited to individual's experience, skills, qualifications, and job location. Additionally, employees are eligible for an annual discretionary bonus. In addition to base salary, employees may also be eligible to participate in an incentive program.
