Purpose:

Directs the operation of the facility to meet all of the quality, food safety, and customer requirements in the most safe, cost-effective, and timely manner by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.

Job Responsibilities:

    Responsibility includes the management of activities for the safety, integrity, legality and quality of our food products.

    Develop and implement plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and employees to increase plant productivity while maintaining optimal safe working conditions.

    Develop and implement reporting methods and systems to evaluate and control attainment of planned objectives. 

    Reviews production costs and product quality, and modifies production and inventory control programs to maintain and enhance profitable operation of facility.

    Develop and implement training programs and plans to upgrade employee skills and cross- train for career development.

    Provide direction, development and leadership to production supervisor(s).

    Monitor plant departmental activities and assist with problems as necessary to meet planned production schedules and insure product quality.

    Review operational issues with involved departments to resolve problems or implement changes.

    Evaluate and recommend equipment purchases to improve production operations or working conditions.

    Assist in development of capital budget plan to meet needs of the facility and corporate strategic objectives.  Report progress of capital projects to budget on a monthly basis or as requested.

    Communicates Safety, Quality, and Food Safety policies to all employees. Ensures all employees apply such policies. 

    Implement, support, and maintain quality management systems, continuous improvement programs, food safety, employee safety, preventative maintenance programs.

    Incorporate and support GMP’s and plant cleanliness among plant personnel.

    Implements and monitors overall production performance and quality standards and ensure objectives are established, documented, monitored, and reviewed. Ensure non-conformities identified in quality programs are addressed and corrected. 

    Supports food safety, quality and legality.

    Support, and comply with all quality management systems, continuous improvement programs, food safety, employee safety, preventative maintenance programs.

    Support and comply with GMP’s.

    Participate in TPM initiatives. 

    Follow all company policies and procedures.

    Other duties as assigned.

    Manages subordinate supervisors who supervise employees in the Production and Sanitation areas. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

    Supports product safety, quality and legality.

    Communicates Safety, Quality, and Food Safety policies to all employees. Ensures all employees apply such policies. 

    Support, and comply with all quality management systems, continuous improvement programs, food safety, employee safety, preventative maintenance programs and legality.

Skills/Work Experience:

    Preferred fields of study include food science, business management, industrial management, and/or engineering. 

    Experience must be in supervisory and operational responsibility for food manufacturing.

    Strong knowledge of all governmental regulations concerning the operations, e.g. OSHA, FDA, HAACP, as well as good manufacturing practices for food processing facilities

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  

    Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. 

    Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.  

    Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.  

    Familiarity with mechanical functions of all machines/equipment.  

    Personal computer skills to include spreadsheet software and word processing software (MS Word & Excel).

    Proven competency in supervisory activities which require conflict management, developing subordinates, directing subordinates, managing and measuring performance, motivating, building team spirit and morale, and understanding diverse viewpoints.

Education:    4 Year college degree in Business Administration or related. 

Years of Experience:    3-5 years related experience and or training in food or other manufacturing environment.
