Principal Software Engineer

Description

• Devise or modify procedures to solve technical problems.
• Responsible for system analysis, design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation.
• Lead and direct the work of team members.
• Develop component design and develop system or application architecture.
• Develop maintainable or scalable, effective, defect free source code that meets business requirements and team standards. Identify and implement appropriate continuous improvement opportunities.
• Conduct unit test case development. May mentor junior team members.
• Telecommuting permitted up to 40%.

Qualifications
Employer will accept a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering (any) or related field and seven (7) years of experience in the job offered or in a Principal Software Engineer-related occupation.
Position requires demonstrable experience in the following:

• • Develop and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL.
  • Troubleshoot complex IT issues for new products including modeling refresh launched to handle online and batch specific transactions.
  • Lead design reviews, produce clear architectural artifacts, and articulate technical trade offs to both technical and non technical audiences.
  • Provide mentorship, support, and guidance to junior engineers through 1-1s and pair programming.
  • Build and iterate software prototypes under tight deadlines.
  • Both heads down coding time as well as active participation in product design, demonstration, testing and support.
• Experience may be gained during graduate program.
• Will accept any suitable combination of education, training, and/or experience.
