Job description:

For Guidewire digital portal programs, the Managing Engineering will support the Lead Engineering and Lead Digital Product Manager on larger Guidewire engagements, leading and managing the program and team members, ensuring successful execution, alignment with company objectives, and coordination across teams. The Managing Engineering in Guidewire Digital Portal (ProducerEngage) and will lead, execute and report on delivery assurance, delivery transformation and workforce transformation ideas.

As a technology leader you are expected to be player/coach focused on a singular digital product and you are coding at least 75% with the team while coaching (through pairing where applicable). Your primary responsibility will be to support teams in designing and developing front end portal with Guidewire ProducerEngage and you will be accountable for defining hypotheses and value metrics upfront for Lead Engineering, Lead Digital Product Manager and Allstate Canada Group (ACG) leadership to take informed and prompt decisions. Although your focus will be on building the system of engagement, it will be important for you to have solid platform knowledge and familiarity with the system of record, Guidewire PolicyCenter, BillingCenter and ClaimCenter. You will be expected to leverage best practices and tools to create efficient, reliable, scalable and engaging code.

Accountabilities:

Accountable to the Lead Engineering for the success of assigned Guidewire project(s). Serve as the primary liaison with their counterpart and stakeholders (internal and external), owning the overall relationship and ensuring that Guidewire platform and services align with long-term strategic objectives and bringing learnings from prior efforts to the conversations.

  • Develop and execute engagement strategies that drive customer success and satisfaction across all Guidewire implementations. Ensure all systems comply with security policies, audit expectations and best practices.
  • Manage a cross-functional team as people and delivery manager, lead the discussion and delivery to understand and contextualize each idea within the prioritized backlog, framing potential solutions to address the business problem/opportunity.
  • Accountable for defining clear problem statement with defined assumptions and constraints, development of lean hypotheses, experiments to test (and clear KPIs/success metrics) and getting leadership alignment and approval on the proposals
  • Review all ideas and challenge ideas that do not have a clear problem statement or value defined. Use data driven approach to build and support all hypotheses and KPIs, partner with business leaders to determine the capacity potentially required to test key hypotheses
  • Ensure teams understand the measures of success prior to developing and launching market tests. Accountable and owns the production health of the product, participates in production support calls every time for the platform, participates in analyzing logs and identifying potential problems and defects, and root cause analysis of problems for the highly available business solution.

Qualifications:

  • Overall, 12 + years of IT experience with a minimum of 5 years of experience with Guidewire Digital Portals. Proven experience with Guidewire CustomerEngage, VendorEngage, ProducerEngage or other Guidewire portal products, including JDP framework.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in JavaScript, React.js, HTML, and CSS.
  • Must have Guidewire Certifications related to Digital Portals
  • Proven experience in Canadian P&C personal lines insurance
  • Should be able to drive discussions and take design level decisions and recommend best practices, finds comfort in modern computing techniques inclusive of TDD, CI/CD, Human-Centered design, code management. Strong bias towards automating any process that repeats
  • Experience in enterprise Agile methodology. Strong facilitation and elicitation skills and ability to work in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
  • Personal leadership and a desire to create a culture that enables exceptional outcomes.
  • Must be willing to drive and work in production support model and ensure application is up and available to meet company goals and customer expectations

Bonus qualification:

  • Cloud Technologies: Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure)
  • Additional Skills: Familiarity with additional scripting languages (Python, JAVA) and automation tools. Knowledge of monitoring tools (e.g., Datadog) and analytics platforms.
