Maximizing IRL human connection for the world
The Role
About Posh

We are all social creatures, but the dominant “social” companies today have evolved into digital loneliness machines, driving isolation, anxiety, and mental health challenges around the world.

Human connection is lost. Posh is a beacon guiding us back.

Posh enables anyone to build an IRL community based on shared interests, while connecting consumers with the communities of people just like them. Founded by event organizers who were frustrated with the growing loneliness epidemic and the tools available to build their own event brand, we’ve built the ultimate platform for launching, monetizing, and finding IRL communities of people just like you. In just 5 years, Posh has grown to a team of 65, expanded to 7M+ users, secured $70m in venture funding, and facilitated over $300M in transactions.

About The Role

Posh is seeking a seasoned engineering leader to drive the technology behind our mission to bring the world together through shared social experiences. This critical role will sit at the intersection of every company objective, establishing the engineering culture and ways of working that will allow Posh to scale from 20 to 100+ engineers over the next few years, all while attaining world class engineering outcomes.

You will drive the technical strategy, development, and execution of a platform that empower anyone to launch and monetize an IRL community, while providing consumers with a novel social event discovery experience built on our robust social graph & preference mapping. This role will remain close to the work, setting the pace, guiding architectural decisions, unblocking complex technical challenges, and maintaining a high technical bar across the organization as the team and platform continue to grow.

This is an in-person role based in our New York City office in the heart of SoHo. Building live experiences and building with soul are important for our customers, and we believe being and working together as a team is the best way for Posh to feel and achieve this. Events on Posh should be fun, alive, and driven with passion and we want to mirror this in our teams every day!

What You’ll Achieve
  • Lead and scale the engineering organization, optimizing our talent, systems, processes, and tech for what we need now and in the near future.

  • Create and sustain engineering velocity through hands-on project involvement, while maintaining a high bar for quality, reliability, and developer experience.

  • Ensure the translation of product strategies and feature requirements into clear technical plans, milestones, and action plans with aggressive yet manageable deadlines.

  • Directly manage, coach, and hire as the team scales.

  • Establish a performance- and growth-oriented engineering culture, curating learning & development opportunities while incentivizing the implementation of the best technologies and methodologies for Posh.

  • Oversee roadmap execution across teams, currently composed of five (5) product pods (Organizer, Attendee, AI , and two newly formed pods).

  • Partner closely with Executive and engineering, product, and design leaders on sprint planning and execution, ensuring quality and speed are prioritized effectively.

  • Guide major architectural decisions and long-term technical investments. Communicate tradeoffs and potential risks of not solving debt to non-technical stakeholders to drive organizational alignment in the allocation of technical resources.

  • Establish engineering standards for scalability, performance, security, and maintainability

  • Collaborate with the Data & Analytics team to ensure every product iteration is outcome-oriented, tying metrics to as much engineering work as possible and supporting better decision-making across the company.

  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, continuous improvement, urgency, passion, emotional attachment, and winning.

Qualifications & Skills
  • A strong point of view on what great engineering performance, teams, and outcomes look like, with experience contributing to and leading this.

  • 5+ years of experience in a Director-level engineering management role or higher, leading Engineering Managers and scaling engineering organizations.

  • 3+ years building non-trivial software and systems, ensuring SWEs trust, respect, and benefit from your technical input.

  • Strong technical judgment and the ability to make pragmatic tradeoffs given limited resources and dense timelines.

  • Deep experience with system design, architecture, and large-scale production systems.

  • A proven track record of implementing innovative tools and ways of working that increase engineering velocity while raising technical quality.

  • Strong product intuition and the ability to collaborate effectively across disciplines.

  • Excellent communication and mentorship skills. You have a deep passion and gain excitement from seeing your reports grow.

  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, founder-led environment.

  • A strong opinion and understanding of how different AI models compare across tasks, allowing our AI pod to stay ahead of the curve as technologies become more advanced.

  • Experience managing both product engineering and platform/infrastructure teams, effectively communicating each team’s priorities to each other to drive alignment.

  • Experience working on consumer marketplaces or social platforms at Posh’s scale or larger - we currently have over 7 million users.

  • A passion for building products that bring people together in the real world. Bonus if you have a hobby or passion related to live experiences!
