The Experience:
The Salesforce Edge service provides a secure and compliant mechanism for this global user base to achieve better performance. In addition to the ingress services, the Edge team is also responsible for the egress gateways that provide security and visibility into connections that go out of the data center.

We are looking for a people leader who can manage and drive the team doing the design and implementation of the service. We intend to transform our current software stack to adopt more cloud native primitives to build a more reliable, scalable, and feature-rich delivery platform. Our software stack is based on leading open source software projects like Nginx. The opportunities to enhance the capabilities of the OSS software and contribute back to the community are immense. We are looking to add experienced leader in distributed systems engineers who is passionate, hungry for new challenges, can step up and help deliver on that vision.
What You'll Actually Be Doing:

  • Experience managing team of passionate engineer including recruitment

  • Experience and passion for service ownership, building reliable/self-healing services.

  • Experience working in a complex team environment. Able to deliver under pressure and dependency constraints.

  • Experience building large scale distributed systems, especially in cloud environments

  • Familiar with public cloud services with AWS and Google Cloud Platform •

  • Good knowledge with network technologies, such as TCP/IP, DNS, TLS termination, HTTP proxies, etc.

  • Experience at Scrum or other agile development methodologies, with attention to code quality, delivering secure code

  • You have experience balancing live-site management, feature delivery, and retirement of technical debt.

  • Excited by building reliable, self-healing services on unreliable hardware.

  • Experience designing, developing, debugging, and operating resilient distributed systems that run across thousands of compute nodes in multiple datacenters.

  • Capable of driving and delivering thin slices of end-to-end functionality on a regular cadence with data-driven feedback loops.
     

You're Our Person If:

  • 9+ years of experience with at least 4 years of management experience

  • Experience with Golang, Java and/or C++ in a Linux/UNIX data center environment

  • Experience with live site / production service ownership

  • Experience with distributed system design

  • Experience owning and operating multiple instances of a mission critical service

  • Experience with Agile development methodology and Test-Driven Development

  • Experience using telemetry and metrics to drive operational excellence

Even Better If:

  • Experience with Networking - TCP, TLS, DNS

At Salesforce, we believe in equitable compensation practices that reflect the dynamic nature of labor markets across various regions. The typical base salary range for this position is $197,300 - $313,700 annually. In select cities within the San Francisco and New York City metropolitan area, the base salary range for this role is $237,700 - $344,700 annually. The range represents base salary only, and does not include company bonus, incentive for sales roles, equity or benefits, as applicable.
