To support our rapid growth, we’re seeking a dynamic Business Development Executive, Public Sector.  

Reporting to the Senior Director of Sales, you will be responsible for growing cooperative contract revenue across both new and existing SLED participating agencies (members).

As a Business Development Executive, you will be responsible for identifying, pursuing, and closing new business opportunities in the public sector. You will work with government agencies, educational institutions, and other public entities to sell cooperative contracts that offer best value, quality, and efficiency. You will also build and maintain long-term relationships with key decision-makers and influencers in the public sector.

You will be responsible for driving the sales cycle to completion before transitioning the account to the Member Success team for implementation. Building relationships with senior leadership at the participating agency (member) as well as expanding your relationship with department heads in procurement, IT, HR, and others.  These relationships will be paramount to your success as you interact  with new members to generate new business opportunities and up-sell to expand revenue across existing members.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute sales strategies and plans to achieve revenue and growth targets
  • Prepare and deliver effective presentations and proposals that demonstrate the value proposition and benefits of cooperative contracts
  • Negotiate contract terms and conditions with customers and suppliers
  • Lead all aspects of deal execution, including strategic and financial assessment, structuring, and negotiation
  • Provide excellent customer service and support throughout the contract lifecycle
  • Collaborate with internal teams such as marketing, legal, finance, and operations to ensure customer satisfaction and contract compliance
  • Maintain accurate and timely records of sales activities and pipeline in Salesforce
  • Attend trade shows, conferences, and networking events to promote the company and its cooperative contracts
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices in the public sector

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, public administration, or related field
  • Minimum 8 years of sales experience with a minimum of 5 years of sales experience in the public sector, preferably with cooperative contracts or similar solutions
  • Proven track record of achieving and exceeding sales goals
  • Strong skillset in developing and presenting programs to leaders of public agencies
  • Demonstrated history of working with brand image and promoting value through customer experience
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Experience with CRM software, Salesforce preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications preferred 
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with customers and stakeholders
  • Knowledge of public procurement processes, policies, and regulations
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and customer-focused
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time
