About the Position

The Associate General Counsel will be a key member of Vetcove’s legal team and a trusted partner to teams across the business. This role is ideal for an attorney who thrives in a high-growth startup environment, brings a strong work ethic and ownership mindset to every project, enjoys tackling problems big and small, and wants to help build the legal infrastructure for a rapidly expanding technology company operating in highly regulated markets.

You will work closely with Vetcove’s legal team, business leadership, product, and operations teams on a wide range of legal matters, including commercial contracting, product counseling, regulatory analysis, privacy, data security, intellectual property, and strategic growth initiatives. You should be excited to jump into new areas, master unfamiliar legal frameworks, and help the business move quickly while thoughtfully managing risk.

About our Team

Vetcove’s legal team is deeply embedded in the business and works cross-functionally across nearly every major company initiative. We support a suite of products serving veterinary hospitals, corporate veterinary groups, manufacturers, distributors, animal health suppliers, and pet parents, which means our legal work touches SaaS, ecommerce, marketplace operations, pharmacy, veterinary practice regulations, FDA, DEA, privacy, telecommunications, consumer protection, and emerging technology.

We move quickly and expect our lawyers to be practical, proactive, and business-minded. You will not be limited to a narrow legal lane. Instead, you will be expected to understand the company’s products, customers, commercial goals, and regulatory environment, and to help craft thoughtful, scalable solutions. This is a role for someone who wants to become a true partner to business leadership and help shape the legal strategy of a company building the future of veterinary care.

What you’ll do

  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage a wide range of commercial agreements, including SaaS agreements, MSAs, SOWs, order forms, NDAs, DPAs, vendor agreements, distribution agreements, partnership agreements, and other strategic commercial contracts

  • Partner closely with business leadership, product, operations, and finance to support enterprise deals and strategic initiatives

  • Advise on product development and product launches, including identifying legal risks and developing practical, business-oriented solutions

  • Develop expertise in new and evolving legal areas relevant to Vetcove’s business, including telecommunications, consumer protection, privacy, FDA, DEA, veterinary practice laws, pharmacy laws, ecommerce, marketplace regulation, and related compliance frameworks

  • Help translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical guidance for product, engineering, operations, and business teams

  • Support strategic growth initiatives, including new products, new markets, new commercial models, and new regulated workflows

What you should have

  • 5-8 years of legal experience, including experience at a top-tier law firm

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar

  • Excellent drafting, negotiation, and issue-spotting skills

  • Exceptional attention to detail

  • Very strong work ethic and desire to dive deeply into the business

  • Experience advising high-growth technology companies, SaaS businesses, regulated businesses, or enterprise software companies

  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for learning new and evolving regulatory frameworks, and translating them into practical guidance for the business team

  • A proactive, ownership-oriented mindset and a strong desire to solve problems rather than simply identify them

What We Do

Vetcove is a Y Combinator and venture-backed growth stage company with notable investors in Silicon Valley and NYC. Our mission is to provide veterinary hospitals and nonprofits with technology that helps them succeed through our eCommerce and mobile platforms. Our community includes more than 17,000 veterinary hospitals and nonprofits whose staff collectively deliver care to tens of millions of animals every year across all 50 states. Simply put, Vetcove helps personnel at veterinary organizations spend more time helping patients, and less time shopping and comparing across vendors to supply their practices. We're completely revolutionizing the way veterinarians discover and buy products, and how animal health brands engage their veterinary customers. We believe that the work veterinarians and their staff do, caring for America’s pets, is an essential and noble calling. We strive to be a catalyst for change in this $50B+ industry by placing veterinary professionals at the center of everything we do, and enabling them with powerful technology and delightful user experiences that help them do their jobs better. Our Vetcove team has a passion for disruption, because we know that what we do matters. Everything we do, we do as a team. Together, we create paths to success by going above-and-beyond for our users, and finding new ways to evolve our technology by redefining the boundaries of what others believe is possible. We champion transparency–both internally and externally–because we so highly value the trust our partners place in us, as well as the trust Vetcove team members place in each other. We disrupt with humility–and are enjoying the journey of growing our impact, rather than focusing solely on the destination. We're looking for exceptionally talented and passionate people to join our quickly growing team.
